Stainless steel countertops? Has to be the worst material choice ever, unless for a restaurant.
The house was upscale, remodeled top to bottom in a contemporary style. The countertops wore well, but again hard to not leave streaks or water marks on them.
This is so true - I avoid any sits involving a cleaner or housekeeper after a bad experience on a four week sit in the US. The owners had a regular housekeeper that came in the house to clean immediately after we left. She opened all the mail we had left unopened and told the HO that we had opened it. She put some houseplants outside the back door and moved furniture around, and again the HO took her word over ours that we did not do it. She also let herself into the house during the sit while we were out as we came home to find her inside on the phone to the HO and sending her video of the house. Never again!
Wow, I’ve sat multiple homes with regular cleaners and have appreciated that, without running into problems. I either cleared out to stay out of their hair or have telecommuted in one room or area while they cleaned and then we rotated so they could clean that area or room. A few times, I told them I’d clean my own room. Anyway, I live cleanly and neatly, so I don’t create extra work for them.
I’ve been invited back, so I doubt the cleaners said or did anything against me.
OMG! That first part! You know what? Opening mail (deliberately) that doesn’t belong to you is a Federal offense in the United States. Wow.
Hi just to avoid any confusion. While you are correct in general there are exceptions to this rule that grant legal authority to a 3rd party. We now reside in Europe but my home in the US is rented to tenants, who have express written permission (via an email) to open our mail and deal with accordingly which usually means either discarding it or sending us a scan of the contents. They even endorse and deposit the occasional check. They do us this favor in exchange for a break on the monthly rent.
Sure, of course, when someone has permission.

I finished a sit recently where everything went well. The following day the HO arrived (I stayed a couple of extra days), she chipped her brand new kitchen countertop. Price tag: 500 euros. It made me think: it could have been me. It can happen to anyone specially when it is not your house, you are not used to the appliances, you don’t know how everything works. Those are the fears and anxiety that make this “job” stressful.
