2nd sitter has left and taken my dog and my vehicle

I’ve now read about this in some news reports. So sorry this happened to you. I would be beside myself. And so much worse when you are so far away.
Just wanted to send you some supportive wishes and hope that Maverick will be found safe and sound soon! Hang in there!! :hugs:

I’m really very sorry to hear this and can appreciate just how worried and upset you must be.

Glad to read now that the police is taking this seriously and that it’s in the news. The police should have some kind of an alert for your car and stop it on sighting. Wonder how they know he might be in Florida yet didn’t stop him….I’m sure you’re more concerned about Maverick than your car and, despite the fact the sitter had permission to use your car he didn’t have permission to take Maverick away in it for this length of time. Given all his wild stories the police should have done more from the start, although can understand their initial reaction. They should be concerned for Maverick. Not the same but once I inadvertently put my car keys in the boot with the dog I was looking after when we came back from a walk, and had locked him in. I called my breakdown service and they made it a priority to come and unlocked the car. I could equally have called the police and they would have come also.

It looks like the car and Maverick will be found soon now, well I hope so.

It sounds as though the police are already working on the case

I am not sure if the fact that they may have left the state makes things more complicated to manage.

I do hope Maverick is found soon.

Of course, in an ideal world, this is something the police should be doing……

THS has sitters’ emergency contact details

I can assure you both police, my home base unit, and private investigators are involved. The issue lies with the permissions laws and police waited too long to upgrade the two cases I submitted. It turns out there are significant Grey zones with using a 3rd party for house sitting.

They refuse to answer calls from police, THS, and investigators and myself.

Thank you for keeping us posted. Our hearts are with you and Maverick, brother. :growing_heart:

I have read about this situation on other social media sites and it’s good to see that the homeowner has posted here for help, although there isn’t much that can be done, but the kind words are surely appreciated.

This situation reminds me of when we used to rent out a studio apartment in one of our homes. One time we had a tenant that clearly had a drug problem (we discovered this a bit too late unfortunately). His girlfriend was constantly knocking on our door asking if we had seen him as he would disappear for a week or more and she’d track him down and find him in somebody’s house all strung out on whatever the particular drug of choice was, she’d bring him home and he’d sober up for a period of time until it happened again.

This situation reminds me of that where you have a seemingly normal individual with no history and even good references that suddenly does something totally unexpected.

If this is the case, it is my belief that he will eventually come around, as this cyclical behavior is characteristic of drug addicts. Right now he’s probably in no position to come back with the dog or the car but when he gets his act together you will hear from him, and the dog is probably just stuck in the dwelling with him and is scrounging on food scraps or whatever and is ok.

Of course this is speculation but it’s not an unreasonable scenario.

Sorry but this sounds like victim blaming

So sad this is taking so long. It does sound like he had some sort of mental break if he was talking about tiny people coming through the windows. Thinking about your dog. I hope Maverick is OK.

Wow. What an incredibly sad and worrying case.
I saw the article in the New York Post. Maverick looks an amazing dog. I hope he is returned home asap.

Any chance your First Sgt can get involved?

Any update on Maverick’s whereabouts?

No sorry. Maverick still missing and the police have paused investigation due to warrants and court orders being processed.

First shirts are involved, but that is more along the lines of making sure I am ok and seeking help for my mental health.

I wish you all the very best.
Please, do update the forum when Maverick is found safe and sound. I’m pretty confident that he will be.

Wow, it reads like an episode from Breaking Bad. Here’s hoping it all works out and Maverick is returned unharmed and soon.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. So sorry! I bet Maverick is thinking of you as much as you are of him.

I’m headed to Denver/CO on Thursday. Is there a police, news or social media post with pictures of Maverick or information about the sitter so I can keep watch for them? Can you post that here, if allowed?

Why is it taking authorities so long to find him. I would think a dog and a guy traveling together would be showing up on different cameras about town or at airport. He flew to you, right?
