Address in welcome guide

I have never had this happen before and wondering what your thoughts are on this. I have a sit for May 12th and had a sitter lined up, I had a video call with her and said I would print out the welcome guide. I do not recall any conversations around my address being in the welcome guide when we chatted. I shared the welcome guide online a couple of weeks ago and received a message today telling me to contact her as soon as possible. I called her and I have now found out that because I put my address in the welcome guide she is unable to sit for me because of safety concerns. It is wednesday night and the sit starts on Monday! To say I’m stressed is an understatement. Has anyone dealt with anything like this?

Thanks!

I’m confused, the way you have wrote that indicates you perhaps think she is concerned about your address being exposed to others, is that right? Is that her concern? If so, that isn’t the case, explain to her only those particular sitters who you’ve shared your guide with get your address. Sitters don’t get to know an HO’s address until they receive the Welcome Guide, unless they directly ask, we only get to know your village/town/city upfront, that’s all. Joe Public doesn’t see your address.

It’s more likely she has safety concerns over certain neighbourhoods within your location, but she knew your vague location, so if that was how she felt, she should have asked for your address straight away.

Sharing your Welcome Guide earlier would have been best with hindsight.

Are you actually in an unsafe place? On this occasion, with you needing a sitter on the 12th, I’d try to understand what her safety concerns are, to put her mind at ease and see if she’ll reconsider, but she’s probably made up her mind.

Some sits get cancelled by sitters after reading the Welcome Guide, because there are things that should have been revealed earlier in an HO’s profile, but I’ve not heard of anyone cancelling over the address, not once everything is agreed.

Thanks for your response, not an unsafe area at all. She has reviews as well so it isnt her first sit. It honestly seems to be because I put the address in the welcome guide. I wish she would have opened it weeks ago and not 4 days before the sit.

I’m also confused. Your address is supposed to be in the welcome guide.

Perfect, thanks! I do have an applicant since it was opened last night so that’s good at least!

super weird. I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with this!!

if the sitter is concerned that the address has been included in the WG… her complaint doesn’t make any sense. the WG is only accessible by her…

if the sitter is concerned specifically about your neighborhood, then it’s strange that she wouldn’t have vetted your location during your earlier conversation/s.

so bizarre

I’m a bit confused as well about why the sitter cancelled. Nobody should be cancelling except for an extraordinary reason. If this was the reason the sitter gave, you should contact membership services to report it as they don’t track cancellations that aren’t reported. Unless we are all missing some part of the story, it sounds weird, and probably THS should be know so if there are other reports of cancellations like this, they can look at the sitter’s account.

Thanks, I totally agree. We had a video call before the sit was confirmed and I provided the address to her at that point as well. Definitely not a bad area I’m in, its all very confusing. Glad that other people find this odd as well.

Seems like a trumped up excuse or goofy thinking.

Well I always ask the owners for their address as soon as I’ve accepted a sit. I also ask for their mobile number and ask to communicate via WhatsApp. I certainly don’t wait for a Welcome Guide as it often doesn’t materialise….

It’s totally strange, I’ve never received a single Welcome Guide WITHOUT the address being in it.

Weird, odd, & peculiar!!!

Possibly it’s an unsafe area for ‘her’ something that’s a personal issue I’m thinking DV or similar maybe? I can’t think of anything else?
Although is it because of visas or crossing border control due to recent stuff in the news? Just speculation of course.
Best wishes to you.
