I’m sitting in a UK city, in a large terraced house. The family next door (one teen son, maybe more kids) have been screaming their heads of at each other this evening. Stomping around, swearing at each other at full pelt. It seems to have calmed down now.
Is it ever appropriate to intervene in such a situation? I don’t want anyone getting hurt.
Should I ever call the police? Should I tell the owners?
Or am I just overacting, all families have arguments? (I have experienced domestic abuse myself, so am perhaps oversensitive).
Sadly I don’t think the police would be interested if it’s ‘just’ verbal’ and not in the middle of the night although I understand why it bothers you. I suspect the neighbours are already aware although you could mention it in a private note when you leave.
If it was me, I would contact the house owner first. Explain what’s happened, & ask them if its happened before, & what they have or have not done about it in the past.
Odds are that the HO has experienced this themselves.
I dont think I’d bother the homeowner who is probably on vacation and happy to be away from maybe hearing their neighbors argue. Just a thought. I would certainly call the authorities if I felt someone’s life was at risk, otherwise I’d probably leave it be.
Yes, that’s exactly what I did this morning (along with some cute pup snaps). They said the teenage lad was a bit of a handful, but it never (hasn’t so far) gotten physical.
