Desirable sits competition

Not to repeat myself, but going nomadic after Oct. And being a little nervous, though I am booked through late Jan. Want to stay south so looking at sits along the southern US coast during winter months,. And I notice that you have jump on these sits so fast. They fill up within minutes. I sort of feel rushed in trying to get my app done. Has anyone done winter in southern US before and do a lot of sits come up and it is early and I am being neurotic?

Relax, there really is no rush.

Once you have an application window open, you can take all the time you need. Even if you are number six or seven.

Or close it again without applying.

Iā€™m not so sure about the comment about keeping your window open while deciding or writing an application- Iā€™ve definitely had them time out and my opportunity gone.
I canā€™t comment on your location, but we often do ā€œcompetitiveā€ locations and lengths of stays and it is very nerve wracking.
My advice is to have a standard letter you can cut and paste into an application and change info based on the sit, add names. You can always send a second message later explaining you were in a hurry because of the limit.
Also, I did sometimes apply while being on the fence and then withdraw my offer if I changed my mind. Luckily I never had a problem, often they hadnā€™t even read my application.

I donā€™t understand that. I thought there was a max of 5 applications per sit. So if I have an application window open, that counts as one, even if it takes me a long time to submit? What if I am 5, three other people are 5 and they submit faster? Couldnā€™t that be the case? I find the sits are going within hours, if not faster.

What I did once when applying for a Spanish sit, which I knew would get five applicants near on instantly, was to apply with a very brief message explaining that I would send a full message straight after, but was doing a quick one due to five applicant limited rule

Not really. After five applications have come in, the listing will go to reviewing status, and the Apply-button with the application url disappears.

But if you pressed the Apply-button before that, you have an application window with a valid url. Your application just gets through, even if you are number six or seven.

Just keep that window open. It is probably good to also click the date box. After that, there is no hurry.

(Unless they changed something with the new application and messaging system, but I donā€™t think so.)

I write a fairly brief message just saying hello and that a properly considered application will be incoming in the next few minutes. Weā€™re 6 weeks out from wrapping up just over 18 months of nomadic life! We didnā€™t struggle to find pet sits, first in the US and then around London, although I wonā€™t miss checking the app every time I pick up my phone!

Nice to hear I am not the only one checking constantly. I have 3 saved searches, but I donā€™t wait for alerts, just keep checking.
