Dumb question here folks, sorry. If the sit date says 01 July to 15 July does this mean you leave on the 16th or the 15th?
@DougPVlogs the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask ….
This usually means you leave on 15th .
But always check with the hosts first as I have found some hosts that find this confusing too and list the last night of the sit as the end date rather than the following day which is the day that they actually want you to stay until .
Had this happen more than once , so we always check and confirm in writing arrival and departure days and times before confirming the sit to avoid any misunderstanding.
Some hosts also build in an overlap day at beginning and sometimes the end of a sit , so definitely something that needs to be discussed.
You’d leave on the 15th @DougPVlogs but this is something to always discuss - arrival and departure dates and times - usually before confirmation of the sit.
Hi @DougPVlogs
have a look at this one
Thank you this is a great help
I will remember to always ask. Thanks.
I will remember to aska lot of questions when I talk to a pet parent.
I learned after my first couple of sits to not only ask their arrival date but what time they would like me to leave. Some will give you evening hours and then you may have to negotiate if you have a flight out yourself or expected at another sit. I have been offered to spend the night if they arrive home late and wake up early and out of the house before they wake up.
Hi @DougPVlogs that’s a great question and an important one to always clarify before confirming a sit.
In our experience the listed dates are quite often not the exact dates you end up doing! Travel arrangements on both sides can vary widely so negotiation is often needed!
E.g Sometimes in the video call the host will say they’ll be leaving early on the listed date (in your example- 1st) so it would actually be better to arrive the evening before i.e 30th (unless you are up for a crack of dawn handover which we are not!) Other hosts will have already factored in an overlap day-i e they listed 1st as the day for you to arrive and they actually leave on 2nd. Same at the other end. If a host arrives back during the day we’d usually agree to leave earlier in the day- before they return. If they are arriving in the evening we might agree to stay the night & leave next day as we never wish to leave a sit in the evening- that’s not comfortable for us- unless we’re heading directly to another sit where we’re having dinner/ overnighting before hosts leave.
Or if we need to leave early in the day and the hosts arrive late we will discuss how to manage the gap for animal care- e.g a neighbour popping in. Etc etc!!
Basically its all negotiable and important to clarify days and times. This is not like a hotel stay with fixed check in and check out times!
Thank you I will always ask
