Forum notifications of archived topics

Can anyone shed light on why I get these notifications?

I was wondering too. It seems there has been a change in the implications that the setting of our preferences has.
After a bit of searching I have come to the conclusion that they have included by default some notifications, like informing when a thread we have followed has been solved.

Yesterday, I changed my preference in a thread to normal but this morning I still got lots of ā€œsolvedā€ notifications. Then I realized that if you read a topic, they automatically set it on ā€œtrackingā€

These are the options for every thread:

As I don’t want to know how many of the threads I have ever read have been solved by a moderator who is doing a bit of tidying up on old threads, I then went to preferences settings on my profile, then ā€œnotificationsā€ and unmarked ā€œsolvedā€ notifications.

I hope this helps.

Notifications of ā€œlikesā€ has also been changed. I have accidentally found out when trying to avoid receiving all these ā€œsolvedā€ notifications.

To my surprise, the new default for ā€œlikesā€ is ā€œfirst time a post is likedā€

Why someone would think that I would be more interested in knowing that a moderator has decided to ā€œsolveā€ a post that I once read three years ago than in knowing that someone has liked one of my posts is a mystery to me.

Anyway, I am celebrating. My self esteem is back to normal now that I know that people who used to ā€œlikeā€ my posts still do.
To be honest, I was a bit puzzled trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.

@Oztravels, I hope you don’t mind my using your thread to add this bit of information about settings. As this is not, strictly speaking, about archived topics, I could open a new thread if you prefer.

These topics are just being archived by Sam. Seems she has been tasked with doing this job. When you have commented on a topic, it automatically sends out the notification. Don’t open them, just click ā€œdismissā€ at the bottom of the messages and it clears them all. They are becoming a nuisance, yes.

Thank you @Newpetlover I’ve now turned off my ā€œsolvedā€ notifications too. I knew that the forum mods were archiving old threads but couldn’t work out why I was getting notified about that. Mystery solved!

For anyone looking to customise their forum notifications;

  • Select your profile picture to open up the menu
  • Select the Profile sub-menu (human silhouette icon)
  • Choose Preferences
  • Customise your notifications using the ā€˜Notifications’ and ā€˜Tracking’ menu’s

Sorry that these notifications have become irksome. :folded_hands:
The archiving process we’re going through is a net positive for the forum overall. We made the decision not to disable all solved notifications during this process, though I appreciate the notifications may be annoying for long standing forum members.

We appreciate your patience.
