Went to a lake about half an hour from our place in Oregon, in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Did a nice two-mile walk around it, with our dog. Perfect weather.
It’s well kept up, with foot bridges across marshy areas. You can rent rafts and boats, or you can bring and launch your own. There are camping sites as well. Some folks fish there, too.
Visited a park / river / beach area about 20 minutes from our place yesterday. Love the history as well. And it’s great that the park provides life jackets for free borrowing and litter bags so visitors can pack out whatever trash they generate.
Our dog loves when we get ice cream there and give him a taste. Bummer for him, the restaurant there was closed yesterday.
No dogs allowed in the beach area, so we walk him only where allowed.
About five minutes’ drive away is another park, full of historical significance. There’s also an easy path to follow, noting plants that were used in healing by Native Americans going generations back.
Potato soup made using ingredients I grew on my Allotment: rhubarb, shallots, garlic, herbs, belotti beans, new potatoes.
Crème fraiche and black pepper added on top.
I had stewed some rhubarb and had frozen it a month ago; it was sitting nearby defrosting as I mistakenly thought it was chicken stock! As I added a dollop of it I realised very quickly that it was rhubarb, so about a spoonful got into the soup. It actually added something nice to the flavour so I’ll certainly do it on purpose next time.
I was making Rum Babas many years ago and accidentally squirted washing up liquid on them…. a less than happy accident as a Chef was one of our dinner guests that night and was oddly very easily able to identify the strange taste! I’ve never lived that one down….
I’m on a sit with 5 rescues..two dogs and three cats. It’s a small village near Javea. It’s very rural and quiet here which is a pleasant change. When I walk the dogs one of the cats will tag along which I think is so lovely. Finally I see them sharing the world together!
Funnily enough when the dogs meet another cat on the walk they go into attack mode! I get up early here as it’s very warm very quickly.
The lovely owners have take the opportunity to go to London for a Bon Jovi concert.
Drove by pumpkin fields yesterday. This still has green ones. Another one had yellow ones.
They’ll ripen in time for Halloween (October 31), which is a popular holiday in the U.S. Many folks carve pumpkins or otherwise use them for decorating. And various farms offer to let you pick your own.
My current kitty likes breakfast early, so its the perfect time to enjoy a good coffee with views on the terrace to neighboring Birgas in Malta. The churchbells have just started ringing for Sunday mass and theres a local fiesta on, so the streets are all brightly decorated. Its still quite warm here during the day, so sunrise coffee is lovely before the heat.
The netting is for the cat not me - a ‘just-in-case-precaution,’ not indicative of behavior.
