It will be interesting to see if you mention the lodger in your review

Nope, it hasn’t been confirmed if it’s the same sit. All I can say is maybe, lots of similarities. If it is the same HO, she knows third parties are against the T&Cs because I told her that.

Totally baffled why you’re taking a sit with advertised house mates at all, when it’s completely against core Ts & Cs?! You’ll have zero comeback if it’s a nightmare and they could be invasive and rude and many other things. Just choose a different one. And report the HO for the third parties pronto so no one else puts up with someone who knows they shouldn’t be on THS at all. #mindboggling

I cancelled. Or tried to. I am unable to message on THS…maybe they did flag the sit.

</div>

You’re not able to cancel a confirmed sit yourself from your side of the equation- simply message the HOs telling them you’re not coming and that they need to cancel from their side to release the listing dates to get another sitter. If they don’t do this in a timely manner then contact THS support.

Did you report it? Not sure how they would know otherwise.

Further evidence that it could be the same sit: the listing no longer opens up from my archives. It did open a few days ago.

I did not feel comfortable the closer I got to the sit. And there is always another sit.

Thanks for pointing this out
I’ve got a sit coming up by the end of the month and they mentioned there MIGHT be guests in the basement, as in air bnb
There would be a door seperating the space upstairs where I’d be staying which would be locked
I agreed but wasnt happy in hindsight thinking it could be noisy
So would this be against ths rules and would it be a reason to cancel?

</div>

The problem is if you’re expected to have any interactions or share any shared spaces like a driveway or garden etc. Also what if there’s an issue, will the guests come to you for a solution or will the HO ask you to step in eg smoke alarm batteries going off, missing kitchen items they need etc.
We did a sit with 3 lodgers upstairs in the house- it had its own entrance but we shared a laundry room. We didn’t like it at all- we lost our privacy as the home wasn’t purely ours to use.

Hmm didn’t even think of that, good point
I’ll take that up with them and see what they say
Stupid me has already payed for transport so cancelling will be difficult

I think it’s best to imagine the worst guests downstairs and then work out how you’d cope with it? In my case- the lodgers were young guys who sunbathed on the roof and smoked and chatted and played music whilst we were relaxing in the garden-I didn’t like it and stopped using the garden. We cancelled the repeat sit.

@co_ri_na Where I live in Canada, locking a door between two areas may create a safety risk for evacuation in the case of a fire. You will need to be sure that where you’re staying has two ways of exiting in the case of a fire. Similarly for those in the other section. Windows also have to be a specific size to be able to be opened to allow for egress, not just something you can smash if you’re cornered by a fire. I realize this type of information is difficult to determine from a distance. Please keep your safety in mind in case of an emergency.

I wouldn’t mind young guys sunbathing 😄😉 but all the others are good points, thanks
I’ll be in their city as of Sunday for another sit, theirs start on the 31th
Maybe I can arrange a visit to check out the situation and share my concerns
I just don’t want to start of on the wrong foot
It’s a massive house so I don’t know what to expect
The basement is in here somewhere

Thanks for your concern and pointing out another risk
It’s a massive house, by far my largest so far
It’s unfamiliar territory with a situation I haven’t come across which probably why I’m a bit worried
I hope I can get some more information from HO, it’s great you pointed out these risks so I can explain my concerns
Thanks again much appreciated 💐

Well this listing is back with 2 sets of dates. The most recent sitter mentions the roommate. SMH.
