In the UK we sometimes say “chrimbo” for Christmas. And, of course in East London we have Cockney rhyming slang…

Agreed @ziggy there’s no point in wasting effort saying full names, we have many short cuts for Aussie place names:

Brissie (Brisbane)
The Goldie (Gold Coast)
Sunny Coast (Sunshine Coast)
Bundy (Bundaberg & the rum!)
Rocky (Rockhampton)
Barky (Barcaldine)
Gundy (Goondiwindi)
CQ (Central Queensland)
FNQ (Far North Queensland)

And that’s just a handful of Queensland names! Have to stop now as I’m worn out! :rofl:

@Smiley, not sure aabout that but in Queensland “Maggie” is Magnetic Island, near Townsville FNQ

Wow! It seems Aussie is a bit like colloquial French, they use all these shortenings and, out of context, they could refer to lots of different things.
