Weâre from Durham, England. Weâre in our 50âs/60âs. Three years ago we thought weâd try pet sitting, just occasionally⌠and long story short⌠within 3 months we were doing it full time, itâs a fantastic way of life, so much fun. You will love it.
@GlassHalfFull, lots great advice from others.
Weâd support time & effort to create great profile - to be attractive to pet parents. Our first sit was 1000km from home and second one in a different continent! But most people seek local first.
Otherwise, enjoy the adventure
. Everyone starts with no reviews and limited, if any, experience. But we all learn. Sometimes the best tactic is ready-fire-aim.

Love the quote. ![]()
Think the profile is getting there, we have references coming in now and will start applying, hopefully our first sit will be in the first two weeks of April. ![]()
There are lots of sits listing in U.K. over the Easter school break - we have been receiving sit invitations for these dates but had to decline them as we already have a sit which we confirmed last year .
Welcome, you have found a great site, and adventures ahead.
I joined last year, as i was heading back home to the UK for 3 months, and wanted to have the opportunity to stay somewhere other than with family, here and there, to give them a break, and also discover new places I havenât been.
I was guided by the dates I had available, and then searched UK & Ireland to see what was available. Transport was important, but other than that, I was open to anywhere.
I had 4 terrific sits in 4 different counties, and it really came down to fate, as to where I would stay, after I entered the dates I had free This made it very exciting, as I was exploring new places/towns/regions, but also meeting some amazing fur babies.
Honestly, the only hesitations for me, was âcan I get there by public transport from where I amâ. Train travel is pretty expensive in the UK, but I was able to get 1/3 off rail travel as over 60.
Walking up to the front door of a house, and knocking to say I had arrived, was always part excitement and part apprehension, but thanks to phone calls or video chats, and great communication beforehand, I pretty much got a gut feel of each sit.
My expectations were always better than I imagined, and I am so glad I did it.
Go for it!
You will love it!
Wishing you wonderful sits @GlassHalfFull
please keep us updated on how things are going!
Thanks to everyone for the advice and support theyâve shared in this discussion so far - does anyone have any more advice for OP?
Definitely will, and weâre really grateful for all the advice and input.
Tanya stops work in two weeks so everything is very exciting, weâre working out dates with the rest of the stuff we have planned and consider this a long term project.
Happy days ![]()
We have our first sit organised and approved. The adventure begins ![]()
@PV592 It is completely unnecessary to pay for the duo status. My husband and I have been sitting since 2022 and have never needed it.
As others have pointed out, if a couple needs to do overlapping sits, then, sure, maybe the duo plan can help.
And itâs not accurate to state that a newbieâs listing cannot go live without reviews. Youâre brand new to this site and your listing is live without any reviews from a THS sit. You just have references.
Congratulations @GlassHalfFull ! What type of pets will you be caring for?
Congratulations!
Good luck with this new project.
Good work
. That was faaaassssstt!! Congrats and best of luck on your new endeavors.
A nice little pussycat, she looks lots of fun ![]()
Well, I have been doing this since February 2026, and I have 2 overlapping sits coming up in June and August. And while your opinion works for you, those who want to maximize bookings and appearance of being dedicated â Duo canât hurt. And donât concern yourself with my profile, Iâve got back to backs and overlaps scheduled here on THS from mid-may to late September â so Iâm doing something right.
Good for you!
What do you mean?
I am on my 57th sit, and the only one I would definitely not return to was due to cleanliness (or lack of) also.
