Messed up, made cat sad :'(

I really didn’t think the second cat was interested much in toys. “She” doesn’t engage with the wand thing, which “he” enjoys. I usually like to leave a toy when I depart a sit. I got a catnip mouse. She smelled it first, came over and started getting excited. By the time I got the catnip out of the tiny bottle and into the ridiculously small hole in the mouse, he was interested too. He immediately commandeered the toy, wrapped himself around it and proceeded to completely drown it in “lick”. She sat there watching, occasionally glancing at me, and she looked SOOOO SAD. You could not have a clearer comunication.
By the time he was blissed out enough to leave the toy for a moment, she was kind of like “Well I don’t want it now, he made it gross.” After a while she did start to play with it, and her brother immediately returned and, of course, there was an argument. Every time I’ve tried to give her a little time with it, he hears, even from around the corner halfway up the stairs, and comes back. She swears at him and doesn’t get to play again. She looks at me like “what can I do”. I apologised profusely to her  Of course I’d have got two if I’d thought she’d be interested.
I feel so sorry for her that in spite of all the other things on tomorrow’s departure day list, I’m going to try to run into town again and get her a mouse of her own.

Not a question, or for advice. Just thought folks might get a chuckle out of this sad tale

When I was a kid, my sibling and I fought over everything. Our parents learned to buy the identical thing for us, because even a color difference in items would have us fighting over one of them.

Once, an artist friend of the family drew us an Easter card and we fought over that, both holding on for dear life. Frustrated, our mom tore the card in half, so we each had half of an Easter bunny.

It always amazes me how well cats communicate with us. Cute story

Exactly this! We have twins in our family (boy and girl), and this sounds exactly like our experience. The boy commandeers everything, and we have been told to ALWAYS buy 2 of the EXACT SAME thing, so they each get one. SAME COLOR, SAME FLAVOR. exactly the same.

I didn’t have any luck separating them today either. She seemed less keen on the new toy, like it already has a negative connotation that he’s going to show up, and instead of arguing she just walked away.
I left it hidden in a drawer (or he WOULD find it) with a note for the owners that this one is “for her”.
