We have done over 10 farm sits, most are small hobby farms, and it takes an hoiur per day or less. We like being out in the country and we bring our 2 dogs. That limits our sits.
Be very careful. This sit just keeps giving and not in a good way.
These people completely ignore THS T&Cs. Vaccines are compulsory:
5.2.1 be responsible for vaccinating your own pet(s) and notify your Sitter should your pet(s) have any illnesses or ailments;
I know you have already completed more than half the sit length, which means you probably intend to stay until the end but remember that you’re fully entitled to leave.
Where are you sitting though, that’s the important thing we need to know. If you’re in the UK, rabies isn’t a problem.
Pretty sure they’re in the US from the other thread @HappyDeb so not sure what the rules are stateside #rabiesreasoning
Most U.S. jurisdictions require rabies vaccines as a matter of public safety. And good shelters automatically give them to dogs before they’re adopted out.
Things are good. We have made several process improvements. We will be ok and we learned some valuable lessons.
They asked us to pray for the animals and farm daily. If an animal is sick, it’s demons. On and on.
In the USA from 2015 to 2024, 17 cases of human rabies were documented
I seriously pray that you give a detailed honest review. You can have your religion but when the choices of that may impact upon me it’s a whole different story. If one of those animals dies, will they think you didn’t pray hard enough?
Or, they may think the sitter’s beliefs were the cause of the animal’s illness. Not a true believer so the animal suffered for it.
I highly recommend you be gone before they get home, especially if something had gone wrong during the sit. Never know what such people could justify doing.
I guess you’ll be their first and last sitter.
When people are bitten by dogs and they don’t know whether they’ve had rabies shots (which would of course limit rabies in humans bitten), health care workers urge them to start a series of shots, to head off potential rabies.
That, plus vaccinated dogs, helps keep rabies cases down.
I mention that, because some folks think, oh, there are few cases, so it’s not a problem. It’s actually prevention at work.
Rural US with a wild bat population.
Please put the prayers request in the review. Just as you wrote it here. They will be praying for a future sitter to apply.
Hi @Jenivee
I’ve merged your vaccination post with this discussion, just so all the facts and context are in one place.
I’m going to send you a DM in a few minutes to let you know how we can support you.
