I know this topic has come up before but I find it quite incredible that someone would post a sit and then still not make a decision after two months without even bothering to contact applicants. I also advertise for sitters and make a decision within two weeks or so with any delay usually due to the sitter making arrangements to travel.
Credible scenarios: they found a niece to take care of the dog. Or they canceled their trip. And probably never logged in again on the web site.
Yup. This happens. On other sites too, like Nomador. They post a listing, you apply, they never even see your message and the listing sits there for months untouched. Probably found a different solution and completely forgot about their account
I’ve seen listings that have literally been sitting there since the end of last year
Just recently I applied to a VERY local sit in a village nearby to me. It was a last minute request for a dog sit. Two other applicants had applied before me. I thought it would be nice to help the couple out. The application has still not been read. The date of the start has now passed.
I heard they have taken in a friend of a friend to look after their dog instrad of using THS.
In November, I applied for a sit in Alaska for this summer. There were 2 listings. The owner answered quite quickly, saying she would be in touch the following week as she was now sorting out her first sit. A week later, she asked for more time. It was also convenient for me as I was finishing up my stay in New Zealand and preferred to do the video chat once I was settled back in Spain. At the beginning of March I wrote to her asking if she still was interested. I got a message in mid April, apologizing, saying she had found a local sitter. I still thanked her for her message. The listing had been on reviewing mode all that time and she had completely forgotten. I understand. There was still a long time to plan everything and I was interested in that sitting so I didn’t withdraw my application and didn’t really see a red flag either. Neither did I expect the sit to be still available.
So, yes, I think sometimes people just forget but chances are the sit is no longer available after such a long time.
I’m sorry this has happened to you Ian. I think it’s not uncommon for HO’s to do this. They find another solution and don’t come back to THS.
These are the situation HO’s that complain about sitters applying for multiple sits at a time need to understand.
