The sit is still being advertised, and I’m advised to sit tight to wait, but the start date is close. Is it Ok to check with the owner if they are still considering applications or if it is in fact closed.
Have you already applied?
Who is telling you to sit tight?
You should be able to see if the listing is ‘live’.
No harm in contacting them if you are able to.
It looks to me like you have not been chosen for this sit. Dont wait around anymore in hope.
Some people on THS get their pet care sorted out another way and just dont fuss about getting back to applicants.
A person in a nearby village to me joined THS for pet care, she got three applicants. She then sorted it out with a friend of a friend. The listing was still ‘live’ right up to the day.
Welcome to the forum @Solarpower
@Solarpower yes check with the owner .
Some people have already made other arrangements but have not taken their ‘advert’ off the site, just had my time wasted by someone who didn’t even bother to reply to me, even though I messaged her and asked her to share thoughts with it being so close. So, I withdrew application last night. There are a lot of people who don’t take their advertised sit off even though they have made other arrangements.
The better advice is to apply for other sits.
Hello @Solarpower
What did you do?
Nah, don’t sit tight, don’t contact them.
Forget about them and move on.
‘Sitting tight’ and waiting around for a HO’s response isn’t often successful. Apply to multiple sits at once, see who gets back to you within 3 days or so, withdraw your application from those that didn’t, and keep applying to other sits
I see really no reason for withdrawing an application. I only do that after I get another sit confirmed.
Each to their own Personally I can’t stand having a clogged inbox with HO’s that haven’t even seen or responded after days or a week, and I just withdraw & move on. Most of the time if one of those HO’s ever respond, I’m not available for their sit dates anymore anyway and am booked for a sit long before they ever saw the message
I withdraw within 48 hours if a host doesn’t get in touch to schedule a video call.
Why: I’m not interested in partnering with hosts who don’t act quickly, whatever their reasons might be. For me, there are so many potential sits, I’d rather move on. I also like to empty my inbox as much as possible.
@Solarpower
Did the HO advise you to sit tight?
It’s hard to say how it will go if you contact them. If 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 asked you to sit tight they may not like you contacting them. Or it could nudge them to make a decision.
Personally, I set my own deadlines of how long I keep my application up taking in to consideration how much time I want to prepare for the trip.
I usually take down applications that haven’t been read or replied to after about 3 days. It’s just how I like to deal with it. Probably because, if my application clicks with someone, I usually hear back pretty quick.
The new inbox message (THS auto generated) received after you submit an application is “ Hold tight”
@Silversitters ooooooooooo, got it. lol
I’m dealing with this situation right now. Put through an app on Saturday morning for a last min sit that starts this Saturday. I don’t get a response until Tuesday evening that she is interviewing another person and if it doesn’t work she will contact me. I told her I had just made another commitment for this weekend and didn’t even have time to remove my app yet. She responds that the other person has also cancelled and now she doesn’t have a sitter. I don’t think it should be our responsibility to keep messaging HOs if they need us or not, especially when they never responded to the initial application. I feel bad she doesn’t have a sitter now but in reality all she had to do was respond in a timely manner.
