Only hearing Crickets!

Hello! I’ve been using TH for about 7 years but haven’t posted a sit since last year (before the sit cancellation penalties were added). I posted a sit a couple weeks ago and I’ve always had fast and numerous sitters respond with interest but only hearing crickets on this sit. Has anyone else seen a delay in sitter responses this year? Maybe the sitter interest has changed…

Thanks

There are no sit cancellation penalties that I know of?
What does hearing crickets mean?

Silence…except for the crickets chirping in the woods/meadow. :upside_down_face:

To the OP: Welcome to the Forums.

As Bonnie mentioned - no cancellation fees, although non-premium members now pay listing fees for booking a sit.

There’s been much conversation about sits going un-taken here on the forums. Consensus seems to be that it’s a combination of things: the economy, the uncertainty in geo-politics due to the war, increased travel costs, non-US sitters unwilling to travel to the US, etc.

If your sit is a short one (less than a week), there’s speculation that the booking fees are impacting those as many don’t feel they’re worth doing for the combination of the cost & extra trouble (cleaning etc) for such a short time-span.

That said, if you’d like to link your listing to your profile, I’m sure the community would be happy to provide any insight they may have insofar as maximizing the appeal of your listing in order to attract as many sitters as possible.

I’m having the same problem. I’m a new member and I signed up and did everything requested and I have nobody stepping up to sit. In addition, it’s pretty damn near impossible to search according to the city I’m in because the user experience on this platform is very poor. When I enter the city I get all the cities in the area which is not helpful to me at all. Pretty disappointing as a new user and I’m debating whether to just cancel if I don’t start getting some bites

If you add your listing to your forum profile, which other members have mentioned to you before, then as a new host you can get some help from more experienced people on the forum. Otherwise it’s impossible to know how to help or what you’re missing. There do seem to be more sits than sitters on offer, and the US is tricky right now but there could also be other factors with your pets, pics or location that you could fix for success. The map function is more helpful than using the city name. #giveitawhirl

@Rlsigmund That’s disappointing for you. Have you updated information on your listing as there have been “improvements” and compulsory inclusions since last year for hosts to complete?
Once checked and updated if necessary, make sure to remove your dates briefly then re-post them to make your listing New.

Hard to tell why you might not have any nibbles; you can put your active post on your community profile, so we could opine on why things are radio silence for you.

Hi @Rlsigmund

Have you had any applicants yet?

If you’d like our members to take a look at your listing and share some advice on how to attract sitters, you can add your listing to your forum profile, and if you have any issues with the linked instructions, the team would be happy to help!

Why would you want to search by City name as a HO though? As a sitter I search by area location then zoom in using the Map search ‘redo search’ option which brings up a specific smaller locality and the listings there.
Also as a HO are you approaching sitters directly as this rarely works…. it’s not how THS operates. You list and then sitters apply if it’s an appealing listing.
