This topic has been expanded upon in various threads. I tend to walk dogs more than they are walked and they can generally do the walks. I am on a sit now where the dogs cannot go near anything the HO told me. They were very excited to go on a walk. We just went a third of a mile, half a Km to the water. One, the older one (big hairy dogs), sat and refused to budge until we headed home. The younger one (8) half mastiff, laid down on the way back. Desperatly needing a break. And we walked like seniors with a bad knee on this walk. It was not brisk in any capacity. I kept asking before he left, āare you sure they can walk a distanceā and he kept insisting. They havenāt walked in years in my opinion. I donāt mind pushing the walks, I generally do and HOs are happy they are getting the exercise, I doubt these dogs are going to get to a mile on a walk.
I do get the impression that us sitters who enjoy walking dogs do walk them more than their owners, and I have had quite a few instances of this. The sad thing is that they, no doubt, end up going back to their sedentary lives once the owners return so I wonder sometimes if Iām doing them a disservice!
Yes, weāve sat some that definitely donāt get walked as much as weāre being asked to walk them. For those sits like that, I āfeelā at the most they must only get 3 walks per week for the duration that weāre being asked to walk them, maybe just once per week for some of them, we can tell straight away.
Weāve also sat for a couple of others, who have deliberately wanted us to walk them more than they would to try to get their dogs a little healthier, and thatās fine, because they were totally upfront about it
.
Probably some HOs think they are the boss and want to keep you busy, although they paid nothing, they still try to make it worth it
The neighbor across the street was wondering why he was seeing the dogs walked twice by his house every day since he hasnāt seen the walked before.
