There’s a lady who offered me 50e per day. The fridge full of the food what I want and a driver for everything that I need…and she wants to do everything (the contract) outside of the app
What do you think? Sounds suspicious…only one review.
I want to do a videocall but she’s always doing something without time for a call…
@Luna17, this seems a risk-reward kind of situation.
How well do you know the person?
How distant the timeline of the housesit?
How do the pet responsibilities, property and other matters compare to a THS listing?
How significant is the proposed compensation value to you and to pet parents?
Contract?
What is their motivation for off-THS housesit? Odd given they seem to already have a THS profile and one completed review.
Most of our housesits are THS. Some are not.
A few of our housesits have involved compensation, voluntarily offered by Pet Parents. We have to appreciate that some people just want to pay - whether as a sign of gratitude for looking after their property/pets, for cultural reasons or otherwise.
Recommend complete due diligence. Require video call. Ask questions. Identify any dealbreakers. Then make an informed decision.
I would be asking why they want this arranged off the platform - and why they are offering payment- are there additional responsibilities ? If you go ahead be aware that you won’t have any back up from THS if things go wrong as it would be a private arrangement.
We do paid sits on another platform we always have a meet and greet before the sit is agreed . A video call can be a substitute for that -
That sounds like a scam. Offering you money when she could get it for free, offering a driver and food? Too good to be true and very scammy. Does she have reviews on THS?
I don’t mean to lecture you, but pet-sitting scams are very common in the paid pet-sitting community. Usually they involve someone who is too busy to talk, or is inquiring on behalf of their “uncle who is returning from Spain”. The scam, like many others, involves the “customer” overpaying in advance and then asking you to refund the overpayment. They they cancel the initial payment.
Did she ask what your blood type was and if you still have both kidneys? Even if not this still sounds really suspicious. Why would someone want to pay so much if they don’t have to only to avoid what few, poorly enforced THS rules there are through the platform?
It would be really helpful if sitters could have the option to contact previous sitters who have already stayed in a specific home, in order to get additional context about their experience.
In the same way, it could also be useful if homeowners had the option to connect with other homeowners who have already hosted a particular sitter, so they can exchange feedback and insights.
This would provide more transparency for both sides, especially when there are only one or very few reviews available.
Sometimes a single review does not reflect the full picture, and having the option to ask a couple of questions directly would help both sitters and homeowners feel more confident when accepting an application.
Right now the situation is that, after talking to the lady on WhatsApp, I obviously told her that I wasn’t interested in her offer. Since then, she hasn’t published any more dates on Trusted House Sitters. So honestly, the whole thing seems very suspicious.
Trusted House Sitters asked me for more information and they told me they’re going to keep an eye on it, but as far as I know, nothing else has happened.
