Man is a dog’s best friend — or so the saying might go in the case of one wealthy family, who have advertised for a £60,000-per-year companion for their pet.
Central responsibilities include “managing the dog’s morning and evening routines”, “monitoring behaviour and health” and “maintaining the dog’s daily diary”.
The successful applicant will also be required to act as “a trusted guardian of the property” and help out around the estate in Surrey, occasionally pitching in with the permaculture garden or reheating meals prepared by a chef.
They will be paid £60,000 per year with all bills covered, including accommodation in a cottage on the estate, where a partner and pets are welcome to join them.
The successful candidate will be “passionate about dogs and animal wellbeing” as well as “discreet, trustworthy and respectful”. Working hours are Sunday to Thursday from 9am to 6pm, “with flexibility when the family are in residence”. One of the listed benefits of the role is a “supportive, structured and calm working environment”.
Previous experience in private households, estate roles, dog care, nannying or live-in support roles is “highly advantageous”.
The job was listed on April 17 but had initially been advertised in March. The recruiter had to update the posting after an “exceptionally high level of interest”.
“We are very grateful for the enthusiasm shown and appreciate the time taken by all applicants,” it said. “Please note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted regarding the next stage of the process, and we are unable to provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants.”
