I’m a new sitter and have a question about requesting cancellations. I recently moved across country and was excited to get started pet sitting. One of the sits I confirmed was at a farm where I would care for two pets and additional farm animals. After completing my first two sits with individual dogs, I realized that I overestimated my ability to care for multiple pets.
I wrote to the pet owners three weeks ago letting them know that I would not be able to complete the sit due to health reasons (adrenal burnout). I am a responsible individual and expressed my sincere apologies and that I understand the inconvenience in needing to find another sitter. I gave over one month’s notice so I figured they wouldn’t have any difficulty finding a replacement.
I have written to them three times and not received a single response for a sit coming up July 19. I also wrote to THS requesting assistance. They also contacted them and I have not heard back.
I’d appreciate suggestions and feedback.

I would let THS deal with it. Anyway, apart from your health problems, I don’t think you want to sit for people who don’t bother to answer your messages.

@CarolLight13 contact the home hosts through every means you have.
Keep screen shots of the contacts, including those with THS.

Usually, I do video chat using WhatsApp, which means we need to exchange phone numbers. It’s quite possible they aren’t looking or noticing “emails” on the internal THS system.
If you don’t have an external number or the welcome guide with their address and phone number, then you’ll have to rely on THS to cancel the sit.

Ask THS to cancel the sit from your dashboard since the owners have not responded to your messages for three weeks -and are also not responding to THS ( who have alternative contact numbers ) that in itself is reason enough to cancel a sit.

@CarolLight13 Ask THS to cancel the sit for you. If the hosts are not responding to any messages from you or THS it does not sound good. It could be they’ve even cancelled their trip but forgot to cancel you! This does happen! This is why its always very important to exchange phone numbers right away so you have easier ongoing contact outside the THS site -which can be clunky.
Anyway whatever the circumstances you have given plenty of notice and made several attempts to make contact so I would now make sure it gets cancelled.
