As we’re getting ready to leave Fiji next week after almost two and a half months, I just wanted to share something that’s been on my mind.
We’ve been caring for two rescue dogs who were quite reactive and nervous when we first arrived. Looking back, I don’t think I’ve ever cuddled dogs this much or said, ‘You’re the best doggies in the world,’ so many times in my life. ![]()
It’s been incredibly rewarding to watch them slowly become calmer, more confident, and genuinely excited to spend time with us. At first, even going to the beach felt like a big adventure for them. Now they’re waiting eagerly by the car, hoping we’ll take them on another outing.
This experience has really shown me the value of a longer house sit. You have the time to build trust, create a real bond with the pets, and get to know a little of the local community too. Of course it’s still temporary, but the connections you make feel very real.
Leaving next week is going to be much harder than I expected because we’ve truly grown to love these two.
I’m feeling incredibly grateful that TrustedHousesitters has given us the opportunity to experience this.
Greetings from Fiji!
I’d love to hear your stories too. Where are you currently sitting, and what’s been your most memorable experience? Feel free to share your favourite photos in the comments!
