Review Advice for Sitters

Hiya fellow sitters, I was just paging through my sits to see if a host was still active and saw a very recent review from a sitter in her profile who duplicated my review, nearly word for word, as though she copied my review from 18 months prior to her sit and changed a few words here and there, probably figuring no one would roll back that far, even though the host has only 6 reviews. Word of advice: please don’t do this, find your own words for reviewing hosts, I take the time to construct very thoughtful reviews and it is not a compliment, it’s not flattery, to have someone poach those words because they’ve lack of motivation for coming up with something on their own, and especially don’t do this if a host has only a handful of reviews, it only makes you look foolish and disingenuous. Sheesh!

Some people have an extremely hard time writing from scratch and don’t know what to say. I seriously don’t care if someone plagiarizes my THS review, as long as what I said accurately represents their own experience. Comfortable uncluttered clean home, good communication, reasonable expectations, and easy pets? If that’s all true, feel free to steal however I expressed it.

No need to worry about me stealing your words, I’m so full of thoughts and opinions it’s usually hard to contain them
You must have wrote a great review though if she looked at it and went “exactly! That’s how it went for me too!” There we are then.

On the flip side, I’ve looked at reviews from various homeowners that I’ve sat for who have given basically the same review to each and every sitter including me. At least the reviews were positive though

Same here @Globetrotter. I actually think it would be more common for HOs to do this than sitters.

I have noticed that sitters often leave lengthy multiple paragraph reviews and a HO will leave them a one paragraph review consisting of 3-4 sentences. Now I leave a simple 1 paragraph review too.

Well, we all have our viewpoints on this, I reckon! If you can’t find the words perhaps you should consult AI! I DO care if someone plagiarises my review, particulary when a host has only had 6 sitters, I also take issue with sitters who plagiarise my bio, which other sitters have also done. No excuse for it!

I have zero tolerance for people who plagiarise, no matter whose words they are thieving and presenting as their own! Use AI if you can’t come up with something yourself, it ain’t that difficult.

I’m not precious about anything I write in a review, so it wouldn’t bother me at all.
Let’s face it, It’s a review for a pet sit, not a dissertation.

‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’

HO’s leaving the same review for every sitter they’ve had isn’t at all the same as a sitter leaving a review for an HO that matches nearly word for word as another of their sitters, most sitters don’t look at reviews HO’s have left for their past sitters. I think everyone is missing the point here, just be respectful and don’t do it. Again, I put a lot of time and consideration to put forth a very thoughtful review.

And that’s okay, do whatever you want to do! I leave thorough and thoughtful reviews, how much a HO says about me at this point isn’t too great a worry for me, I’ve more than 50 five-star reviews and that’s all most are looking at, they’re just skimming through my reviews and looking at stars and the first couple of lines.

I had no idea that was a ‘thing’, why oh why would anyone do that, if anyone does, stop it!

I see no issue with this. I would feel honoured if someone plagiarised my review. It’s the thought that counts

I’ve had not only that happen, but I’ve seen at least 3 sitters who have “borrowed” verbiage from my profile bio, people who have sat for HO’s I’ve sat for. It’s just so lasy.

And that’s wonderful that you don’t mind it, however I do, hence the post.

It’s not being precious, it’s asking for sitters to use their own words, to be respectful of my time and energy put forth into writing a thoughtful review. I don’t care that it’s not a dissertation, that’s not the point, though I imagine someone who would be so lasy probably did the same in uni, or probably never made it to uni. Your viewpoint is your own, no need to come down on my viewpoint about something I have written. My goodness, I imagine if I said the exact opposite of what I’ve said everyone would be doing the same - “how dare they!!”. Okay, madame, thanks for your input!
