I don’t think that many sitters or hosts skim reviews, we read them thoroughly including reading the ones that the host has written for all of their previous sitters.

Someone who does skim reviews is unlikely to give much attention to an extra tick box either .

Like @Silversitters we too thoroughly read all reviews in both directions. Cross referencing reviews is an essential part of our research into a potential sit. Those who do not pay attention to such details risk making sit choices they later regret!
As to THS sending out more pre-sit, on-sit, & post-sit reminders emails (@IHeartAnimals) I think more than enough are sent already and I tend to ignore them. Ofcourse they can be helpful for new people but not for experienced oldtimers like us! :joy:

@Silversitters @Lokstar
I don’t doubt that you do — but that wasn’t the point either, if you’d read the full context… which, ironically, only reinforces what I was saying.

A button like that obviously wouldn’t be missed if it were required to complete a listing.

Sure, it might be wasted on you — but everyone pays the same, including, say, a 20-something solo female traveler who might reasonably value that added layer of clarity and security.

Hi @buttercup,

I hope you’ve had a good weekend.

I’ve shared this entire discussion with support teams across THS, although in my feedback I’ve focussed on the broader point around improving signposting of T&C’s whilst creating listings.

It would be helpful to have a checklist that pops up when a new listing or new dates are added. A list that HOs would have to click to check each one to confirm that they are following the T&Cs. They should confirm that there will be no third parties present during the sit (not including agreed upon handover overlap), confirm that there are no internal cameras, that external cameras have been disclosed (in my experience, they typically are not), confirm that all health or behavioral issues of the pets have been disclosed, etc.

I do feel THS should take a more active role in providing a little more protection for sitters and ensuring that HOs are not violating T&Cs. THS seems to forget that sitters are paying members too. A quick, easy checklist that could be clicked or initialed could make HOs aware of the rules if they have not read closely and also prevent the ‘I didn’t know’ from those who actually do know.

Yes if this would be useful if this prompt came up each time new dates were listed .

When a host only uses THS once a year they may have forgotten to update the listing to include new external cameras installed or new pet medical conditions , medications or behaviours newly developed .

This could also be advantageous to hosts who have upgraded their wi-fi , kitchen , guest room or bathroom since they created their listing . A reminder to review and update their listing and photos could enable hosts to show that their home has been improved from the previous photos and amenities listed.

Thank you Mark and you too. Thank you for sharing it further — it is much appreciated. As mentioned by others in this thread, there’s a strong sense that THS has long chosen to look the other way on this, and will continue to do so. I’m encouraged to see that your action now suggests otherwise.

One of the core issues behind this growing problem isn’t poor signposting alone. The phrasing currently used doesn’t reflect a mutual exchange between travelers (host/guest). In particular, the wording used in the matchmaking process — such as “application” — reinforces a misleading power dynamic from the outset.
It discourages questioning and often leads members to overlook, disregard, or never fully engage with the terms.

This widespread and increasingly visible misuse is not only violations of privacy — it represents serious security risks.

Will there be a specific update somewhere regarding potential resolutions or adjustments on this?

No, I cannot guarantee next steps at this stage. It’s just too soon.

As a more general point. The forum is a valued datapoint in a much bigger picture which informs the direction of platform development. When platform changes are released, Jenny and I will do our best to signpost the headlines in the forum and keep everyone in the loop.
