Does anyone else like having short videos for instructions - particularly for more complex tasks - eg. pool maintenance, complicated plant watering duties, medicine regimes, horse-feed directions?
On a couple of sits, owners have pre-made short videos, and sometimes I have used my phone to film the owner explaining/showing the job.
Perhaps this reflects by learning style (obviously they leave written instructions too), but does anyone else appreciate this?
Yes, I’ve gotten video guidance from a host before. It worked fine. More their style than any particular need for video. Some people dislike writing. But some info is better written, because you can skim to what you need. It’s often harder to find specific info in a video.
To your point, there ARE some things better shown via video, especially if you don’t have an in-person handoff.
There’s no need for a binary choice. Sometimes a combo works better. Like on teams I build workwise, we document a lot and we mix media for best results.
Yes, I appreciate short videos for instruction. For an example, I enjoy doing reinforcement training with dogs. I have found that HOs may differ from each other in the commands they give for hand signals and verbal commands they choose. As to not confuse the dogs, it is important to stick with the same dog training words / methods.
To remain consistent of what dog training the HOs use, I have recorded them with my phone as they go over the commands. I would send them videos of my doing reinforcement training (same commands they used) with their dogs—for which they appreciated.
I have also taught dogs new commands and shared those videos with the HOs—for which they appreciated.
