I have just done a search on the app for Europe, for a long period of time with few filters, so a lot of sits came up. I have noticed for the first time that, after every group of 15 listings which fulfill the criteria, there’s a “sits we think you’ll like”, which don’t follow any of the criteria introduced.

This is the first time I’ve noticed this. I had seen that before but only after all the results but now they interrupt the search every 15 listings.

Is that part of the new smooth experience?

It’s been around for a long time. I ignore them as they never align with my search.

Yes, been around for long time and are very annoying when trying to scroll sits and you think that’s the end yet there are more lol

We’ve seen this plenty of times.

Seems well-intended function but don’t think that we have ever applied to any such listings. Not sure if this reflects limited functionality, our listing preferences or otherwise. We simply ignore them.

It’s very random. Ours is full of UK and USA suggestions, neither of which are on our preferred sit list so the two aren’t linked it seems. #smootherindeed

Its like this on the App for a long time now -

I commented on it 2 years ago ( April 2024 )when the sit it thought I would like had a one star review with a warning from the previous sitter about the hosts confrontational behaviour .

This feature also frequently recommends sits that covers dates when I already have a confirmed sit .

> On the first page of the web page “search for homes to sit “- there is a section “Sits we think you will like” I have no idea why the THS algorithm thinks I would like this sit - Is it the country ? Is it the pets ? Is it the star rating from previous sitters perhaps ? Today a sit THS thinks I would like is one that most recently received a one star review with a warning to future sitters about the owner’s confrontational and disturbing behaviour ???!!! No - THS I would not li…

The sits they ‘think I would like’ match NONE of the criteria I regularly search for. A complete nuisance and of NO help at all.

I remember the thread and I have been aware of this “section” for quite a while, I don’t like it but I just disregard it. What I have discovered recently is that, on the app, it doesn’t come at the end of the search results, as a separate feature, it interrupts the results every so often (every 15 results, I think), which is particularly annoying as I have to pass through that to continue my search.

Why on earth does anyone think I would like to go to a different continent, look after other types of pets at random dates instead of one of the sits I am specifically searching for?

If everyone says that has been around for a long time, then the only explanation is that I must have done wider searches on the web and then probably go to the app to fine tune a more thorough search that includes missing reviews.

I can understand that THS may be interested in getting more applications and they think a “sits we think you’ll like section” is useful but, [@moderators](https://forum.trustedhousesitters.com/groups/moderators), why not leave it as a separate section?

They’ve been there for quite a while, they never ever match my search terms, it’s a waste of good space from THS’s point of view. If they showed me places I search for it would go in their favour.

I’ve received them since Day 1 and they’ve been consistent in every way : No rhyme, reason or pattern.

Alas, one situation in which the algorism is either absent or stupid !

I agree it can be a bit jarring when those ‘sits we think you’ll like’ pop up in the middle of a filtered search. It’s a common observation, and while they rarely align with my specific criteria, I sometimes give them a quick glance just in case there’s an unexpected gem. It’s all part of navigating the platform’s features, I suppose!

@Jenny, perhaps as part of recently announced changes then there could be a new toggle that enables/disables “sits we think you’ll like” section. Just today we created a niche saved search and saw ample “sits that we think you’ll like” that were for different dates in different continents - pretty dd algorithm provides negative value-add. given opportunity, we’d disable it. given this thread then seems we’re not alone.

@Jenny @Mark_B I’d like to know the team’s reasoning for _Sits we think you’ll like_.

- My profile shows I live in Niagara Falls, Canada.
- I’m currently on a sit within 30 mins drive from my home that will end July 4.
- One of the sits in this questionable feature is for a sit, June 30 to July 5 (when I’m booked with TrustedHousesitters) in **Australia**. Really? 🙄

I usually skip this section but your post prompted me to take a look -

There are 14 sits that THS recommends to me today

**8 are for dates when I already have a THS sit confirmed .**

1 has 5 dogs + 3 other pets -

Two of the other listings have puppies under 1 year old that can occasionally be left alone for _ **up to 30 mins only** _.

I would not consider any of these sits a mutual exchange for me .

It is a ridiculous feature that is a total waste of time. When I select just cats in my search, it still shows me “sits we think you’ll like” that features dogs and other animals.

Unless this feature captures my search preferences, dates I’m not already on a sit, and the location preferences identified in my profile, it’s pretty useless. Does anyone actually check them out or simply scroll by?
