Was it just the car that wasn’t seen, could you tell if the sitter was inside house or not? The car could’ve been at a garage following an issue. Because I do sits full time I have to get service and MOT etc when on sits and that could involve the car being away overnight but not me.
Lots of people leave their dogs alone overnight. Shift workers are one example.
I’m not sure what people think might happen to the dog and home overnight that could not also happen while they are out at work in the daytime.
I suppose breakins and burglaries are more evident during the night, so a sitter being at home during the night is being a proper housesitter, if you follow.
It is rechnically a housesit, rather than a petsit, so effectively looking after the house
I doubt that when it is about residences. During the day it is more likely to find a house empty.
@pietkuip
Or when the car is not on the drive perhaps?
I’m not an expert in crime figures but I’m pretty confident that most burglaries occur under darkness, unless you can provide figures for the contrary?
As a side note, if i was a HO, i wouldn’t be happy if the sitter didn’t stay overnight.
Mains water pressure increases during the quieter hours of nighttime, as not getting used as much. This increases the risk of a water leak, this is fact and not an assumption
From the police in Finland: Inbrott i bostad eller stuga - Polisen
Only one quarter at night.
Most common time is on Fridays between noon and 3 pm.
So they will just ring the doorbell first. And break in when there is no answer.
Be interesting to see a worldwide ratio. UK for example is 60/40 evening and night
Im pretty sure most burglaries happen during the day when there is less risk of being caught, less likely to be disturbed by someone being home.
On the other hand if they want the keys to your car parked on the drive then at night when your tucked up in bed and they can grab the keys and go
Maybe thats why the sitter didnt have the car on the drive that night?
And this causes a problem for HO that they actually notice during the night when they are asleep ?
When who is asleep?
Whoever is in the home when this water leaks happens at night.
But not looking after the house in the day because they are out all day and evening having fun and they’ve taken the dog with them.
Thanks for clarifying, you had me confused.
My inlaws had a burst pipe and we could hear the water from the top of the street, im pretty sure not many people would sleep through that.
I sincerely hope its something you, or anyone, never experiences. The whole downstairs needed drying out and decorating, it took months.
Have a nice day
I thought it was in the terms and conditions that a sitter had to stay overnight, every night.
If it isn’t, it should be.
Over 40% between 3-5pm
No.
The only thing that is explicit in the Terms & Conditions is that the pets should be there overnight.
It’s funny how everything can always be seen from different angles. I would have never thought about a possible privacy invasion by disclosing that it was overnight. In fact, from my point of view, 13 hours during the day would be worse because that is the time when they are active, eat, play, walk… and are going to feel lonely. Maybe it’s because that is the case with my niece’s dogs, the ones I sit most often. She works shifts so even though the dogs sleep with her, if she is working the night shift, they just stay on the sofa and sleep through the night. If she has to be out for 13 hours during the day, I go and take them for a walk, feed them, play with them…
That doesn’t mean I assume leaving overnight is OK. I don’t think it is. I only did it once, It was an indoor/outdoor cat, I was encouraged by the owner and, even so, I informed her about the night in particular when I was planning my excursion and before paying for accommodation, just in case.
What I mean is, since there’s always more than one point of view, factual information is needed and then everyone can decide how they feel about it. In this case, be it in a positive or negative side, I think the “overnight” factor is relevant.
Anyway, reviews are only open to members, not the general public.
