It is enough to have the url of the sitter’s profile.
To do a search, one only needs to get a free account to log in. Then one can find profiles of sitters in some town.
There is always a risk of some internet stalker.

Sorry, I had forgotten that.
But still think HO should give an honest factual review to help other community members, not only HOs, we all read the reviews.
It’s up to the sitter to worry (or not) about her privacy. I guess if not disclosing the time she was absent was very important to her, she would have asked the owner not to do it.
I certainly hope not, it hasn’t yet and no one i know has ever mentioned that its happened to them so it probably very unlikely to be an issue for sitters but just in case i hope HO remember to tell sitters where the stop taps are !!
It would be intersting if it was added to the terms to see what hours were determined to be night therefore what the sitters curfew would be !!
As a retired police officer you are right, breakins predominantly occur during day.
I am not sure which area you policed in the UK but as a retired police officer from Scotland breakins predominantly occur during the day when a house is empty.
They could never specify the hours on night or curfew, it could be a night-shift worker looking after the pets of a night-shift worker… as long as it’s agreed between host and sitter.
You misread what I wrote “I’m not an expert in crime figures”
You assumed i worked in the police too. Totally false assumption, i would have expected better from a former Police Officer
If its an invasion of privacy to say someone was not in a home during the night then its an invasion of privacy to say the person was not in the home during day !
Again what is it that happens in the night that doesn’t happen in the day ?
Your reply may mean HOs in general, but in this particular instance the HO did already communicate with their sitter. We only know one side of the story, but have to take it at face value they happened upon the information and weren’t spying.
They then reached out to the forum for some advice as they appear to have been doubting their judgement. This shows consideration to the sitter rather than writing a snap review, and demonstrates they want to learn whether there was something they should have done differently. Sounds like a responsible HO to me.
Unfortunately canvassing a forum will generate a myriad of varying responses, but what is a forum for if not sharing opinions and advice?
@TashTravels If a HO is checking a security device linked to their phone then they didn’t just happen on information. They have created a situation in which they are able, and in this case utilizing, the device to check the other parties whereabouts. Regardless of the Sitter/Guests actions, let’s stop trying to excuse the monitoring of a Guest without full consent.
Fair enough. I read the situation differently and the HO wasn’t trying to monitor anything, just noticed for whatever reason and was rightly concerned about their pet and home, but who knows. It’s an understandably fractious issue, I don’t condone intrusive behavour and it wasn’t meant as the focus of my response. Just wanted to offer my support on the intended discussion point i.e. home left unattended. To that end I should have just left out the point about the camera.
Yes. If it was about “security”, they would reconfigure so that the sitters would get the notifications.
Absolutely. I’m so tired of this “security” excuse. It’s mostly not about security at all. I would argue that 95% of the people who own such cameras have never actually experienced any security incidents. Often, it’s just a gadget that everyone feels they must have because it sounds important, but in most cases, it’s completely unnecessary. And when there finally is an opportunity to indulge in some voyeurism because someone appears in front of the camera, especially someone who is supposed to be watching the house, then hooorayyyy!
Hello everyone
I am just popping on here to keep the topic on track of ‘sitter left overnight without communicating’. For general discussions about cameras please use the spyglass as several active discussions are going on about cameras.
Please also remember that the forum is for owners and sitters and everyone is welcome to ask questions and find help and support on the forum. That’s what it is here for
Members do not have to agree but when disagreeing please keep it in line with the forum Guidelines:

Thank you!
Many things can happen overnight. A dog or cat can get sick. Or they can simply panic if they are not used to being alone. Shift workers also often make arrangements for their pets that don’t involve leaving them alone for 13 hours, regardless of the time of day.
The point of a housesitter is to be present overnight. If the sitter asked and the owner (who knows the pet best) thinks it’s ok then that is one thing. A sitter who makes poor choices and winds up leaving the house and pet unattended overnight is terrible and not responsible enough for sitting IMO.
Great response.
You are not over reacting and you seem reasonable in your thoughts. Please do write an honest review.
Everyone needs to understand that exterior cameras are allowed. How frequently any owner checks them is the owners choice. Making exaggerated statements about owners checking cameras having no life just reflects on a complete lack of understanding of the modern world.
Very good, let me be old-fashioned then.
Some hosts posting here do seem great!
I understand your reservations though. Some posts do sound scary, but then some from sitters do too.
I’m old-fashioned then. I prefer to be trusted on a platform that is called Trusted Housesitters.
