Sitter’s Bucket List

I had to create a new topic because the previous thread where this was discussed has been closed and archived….

Back in 2023 we said that a sit with tortoises was on our THS bucket list …

and here we are 3 years later ..our current sit has two..

What is on your bucket list ?

It was snakes, but…

They are cuties. For fun, you should put leashes on them and get pictures of you walking them.

They move quite fast ! :turtle:

On my list as well! How wonderful!!

If you use the new Search feature there are so many sits with tortoises listed at the moment .

I did see a man walking a giant tortoise in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire a few years ago. Unfortunately the owner has died so don’t know what happened to the tortoise.

Man takes tortoise for walks to the pub Gloucestershire man walks tortoise to the pub every day - BBC News

And, to sneer the question, donkeys are on my bucket list

No sitters needed at the moment. But if it still is on your bucket list, keep an eye on our listing :upside_down_face:

Thank you! Great video. I wonder if the tortoise would get all excited when he got the leash out. However, how would you know?

We did a sit where the HO had forgotten to list the tortoise- it was winter when they posted their listing so it was hibernating, by the time we arrived for a summer sit the tortoise was awake.

@Silversitters, must confess that we looked after tortoises a few years ago and my spouse determined never to do so again :upside_down_face: - hope that your experience is better!

The more we housesit the more we love looking after small-medium dogs that are trained to walk off-lead/leash. We’re confident and relish walking such dogs. We recognize that this is a personal preference (perhaps biased as that’s how we walked our own dog) and is not always possible for pet owners. But when we see such pets on listings then it makes us smile. Woof!

So far so good for us :turtle:

Please share more of your experience and what put you off ?

@Silversitters, please excuse my earlier comment. My spouse has duly corrected my memory .

Experience to which I referred was indoor rabbits, not tortoises. And it’s possible that context was, at least part, of our challenge as sit was last-minute pivot from first sit cancellation (on morning of sit) where Welcome Guide was scribbled on a portion of one post-it note …

Hope that you enjoy the tortoises.

Thanks for starting a fresh topic about this @Silversitters - I’m really looking forward to reading what’s on everyone’s list!

I’ve added your post to our “featured topics” on the Forum homepage so that it’s seen by as many Forum members as possible.

My tortoise escaped and ran away from a concrete enclosure when I was a kid… The next door farmer found it a year later (just the shell)

They are smart and surprisingly fast

I think a bucket list is to look after a baby crocodile in Australia.

I already had a tortoise, snakes so a little snappy would be a fun addition

That would be awesome! Although, probably on THS’s “forbidden” list.

I had the same thought, I already started looking on other platforms haha. So far no luck.

I would love to sit for a Husky, I watch lots of videos of them

and also COCKATOOS, but I have a parrot I sit for regularly, who entertains me

I would love to sit with a bunny/rabbit, especially a flop eared one, or two!
