I did see a man walking a giant tortoise in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire a few years ago. Unfortunately the owner has died so don’t know what happened to the tortoise.
We did a sit where the HO had forgotten to list the tortoise- it was winter when they posted their listing so it was hibernating, by the time we arrived for a summer sit the tortoise was awake.
@Silversitters, must confess that we looked after tortoises a few years ago and my spouse determined never to do so again - hope that your experience is better!
The more we housesit the more we love looking after small-medium dogs that are trained to walk off-lead/leash. We’re confident and relish walking such dogs. We recognize that this is a personal preference (perhaps biased as that’s how we walked our own dog) and is not always possible for pet owners. But when we see such pets on listings then it makes us smile. Woof!
@Silversitters, please excuse my earlier comment. My spouse has duly corrected my memory .
Experience to which I referred was indoor rabbits, not tortoises. And it’s possible that context was, at least part, of our challenge as sit was last-minute pivot from first sit cancellation (on morning of sit) where Welcome Guide was scribbled on a portion of one post-it note …
