For sitters who like to cook, is this enough pantry space for 3.5 weeks? There is a bit more consolodation I could do and maybe give them another shelf but that would start to get inconvenient for us.
Enough or more? The shelf does go pretty deep…the peanut butter jar is just for perspective, and it’s an extra large size jar
I should have thought that was plenty big enough. Unless you’re not within striking distance of shops the sitter wouldn’t need to store everything they need for the duration of the sit.
You know, I don’t care if they appreciate me haha. Just enjoy the home, space and place and hopefully my cute pets All the appreciation I care for is - we had a nice time and loved on your pets
@Felinelover, what a wonderfully thoughtful question.
Suggest only perspective that matters is that of your prospective house sitter. If concerned, send them the photos and ask. But frankly photos suggest plenty ample enough for a reasonable housesitter.
We have completed housesits in many countries. Grocery shopping cultures vary dramatically - from North America storage / massive Costco products to Schengen storage / small package products.
They are coming a couple of days early. Will definitely let them know we can clear another shelf if they think they need it, or they are free to rearrange too if they like! Thanks!
That’s a fair amount of space. When we don’t have enough space we just leave non perishables on the counter or in shopping bags on the floor (the kind of bags that stand up like Trader Joe’s bags).
I like to cook, the space work out perfect for me. Since house sitting is usually short-term, I don’t always want to buy all the spices or food I normally use. I also feel bad leaving leftovers behind when I’ve used half of everything.
It’s not enough space for me. I just did a 3 month house sit. We travel with all our food which includes oils, vinegars, staples like rice, flour, lentils, and more. We buy other things that we need as we go, like canned beans, tomatos sauces, snacks, etc. Two shelves were cleared out for us. It wasn’t enough. We also have all our spices and some specialized kitchen gadgets.
I know this is probably not typical. But I’m just mentioning it to point out every one is different. It is so nice of you to be concerned about this. If it isn’t enough space your sitters will make more room. If they have done enough sits they are used to making space for there stuff.
if you are supplying the staples, like flour oils etc, that might be ok, but 3 weeks is a long time, and people like to feel comfortable and at home, and if there spaces are to small then if feels like living out of a suitcase to me.
most my long term stays have just said help myself to anything in the pantry, an if something runs out i replace it, but if you have to start with everything i would say no.
all the sits ive had have made me feel at home, not this is your space, and this is mine.
