Why. Are. These. Listings. NOT. Being. Vetted? ![]()
I just interviewed for a sit which sounded perfect until the HO explained that the current lodger would be moving out and a new one moving in while I was there. There was no mention of 3rd parties in the listing. All I would need to do is check the lodger’s room for cleanliness and damages and report back so she could determine whether to withold his security deposit. I said I wouldn’t be comfortable with this and she said “well this IS part of taking care of the house!”
I told her about the 3rd party rule but she had never heard of it.
@Tgray
Have you reported the sit to THS ?
Very cheeky of them.
Being responsible for a handover of a lodger and a deposit is uncomfortable even if one own the house. Sounds awful. ![]()
I agree! These interviews are so crucial to see what you are getting into.
I haven’t yet, I think I will. The HO wasn’t trying to hide it, she saw nothing wrong with the proposal.
You can report a listing by heading to this web page and starting a chat by clicking the little green bubble on the bottom right, it looks like this:
You’ll be prompted to enter a few details, then you can type in “report a listing” which will start the process for you.
Thanks for the guidance!
We had the same thing happen to us. We had quite a few viewings which meant being constantly tidy and having to leave the house with the dogs mostly on very hot afternoons.
I don’t think this should be allowed and certainly not to be informed very close to the date the sit starts.
That’s terrible and definitely not allowed by THS rules! So sorry to hear about that.
Another new listing today for a month long sit that says our 26 year old son will be here but won’t have any involvement in your stay !!
I’ve just reported one where a late 30’s man lives in one of the ensuite bedrooms and you’ll find out on applying whether he’ll be there or not for the dates. They’ve had 5* reviews from previous sitters with no mention of the man and already have 3 applicants.
I recently applied for a sit. I knew there were 3 dogs, but they got walked once a day, went in the backyard to play. But in the video chat it turned out that one dog was the daughter’s. And she dropped it off and picked it up before and after her work shifts. So it was a part time dog. I declined but I think that info needs to be in the listing.
@Silversitters When I hear this, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry!
@Jenny HELP! Seriously, why can’t these listings be vetted prior to accepting the HOs ![]()
Why aren’t they being properly vetted by THS!?
If sitters apply, my guess is that they are new and don’t know it’s against THS stated terms.
I’ve reported one today where in reply to ‘all applicants’ (I was one) the man states his wife will be away but he’ll stay at the home….there’s nothing about this in the listing. He claimed it wasn’t worth updating his profile. I cancelled my application. When I let him know this wasn’t allowed he said he already had several sitters interested in meeting new people and getting to know him! In between all of this I was called passive aggressive and then received an AI generated analysis of my motivations for telling him about the THS Rules including a description of my probable character traits
Anyway I screenshot all the messages and sent to support@THS. Weird one that.
There isn’t a suitable emoji to reply to that !!! ![]()

I once reported a listing that could have been this one. If so, its really annoying that it is up again.
I’ve reported a listing unfortunately the ‘issue’ isn’t in the listing as the 3rd party thing doesn’t get revealed until you apply and the HO messages back with the new information. So the plan to break the 3rd party rule is hidden from view.
