Just wondering if anyone has been hit with ULEZ charges unexpectedly. Recently did a lovely house sit near London and days after returning home was hit with 6 x £90 fines.The sit itself was not in an ULEZ zone, however we now learn that a short trip away was enough to enter the zone. We had no idea, the owners did not mention it in any welcome guide or in person handover. They gave us information on dog friendly walking areas only 10 minutes drive away but no mention of entering ULEZ. Further investigations and we learn that TFL do not signpost it on most residential roads and since we weren’t in London we did not even think it was an issue. It’s a tough lesson to learn, had we known we would have either paid the £12.50 charge on the day or not travelled the few minutes up the road.
Ouch, did not come across this but parking in the UK was not always straight forward and we copped two fines, once in an aldi car park when the registration board wasn’t working and once when we mixed up pay on arrival as others had been pay on leaving.
Could you try appealing the charges? Sometimes there is a phone number on the document you can ring to explain you are visitors looking after a friends pets. If its a council usually helpful
We appealed both parking fines and had them rescinded, so I think it’s worth a try. Nothing to lose but time.

Definitely worth challenging fines with TfL and explaining visitor/overseas/no signs etc as nothing to lose. Poor of the hosts to not flag it especially as there were walks suggested that would ping the fine. Please add it to the review for future sitters. We once incurred 9 fines in Ozzie all for speed limit breaks travelling in & out of central Melbourne. Challenged them as there was cruise control set on the hire car and they all went away
