In Brisbane, mid winter. I can’t believe it
Wow! That’s a hot summer for us in England!
Crazy huh? We were in the UK for your last summer and I think experienced 5 heatwaves. As you can imagine if I’m home during the summer, I’m in the pool every day.
Came here to say “wow that’s hot!” then noticed you’re in Brisbane 
much like @Smiley that’s a hot summer for us in Scotland! We’re sitting at a comfortable 14 and I’m wearing a cardigan.
@Smiley We enjoyed that temp in Marlborough on Wednesday, didn’t we? 
@Jenny we would say we’re freezing in Queensland if it was 14
Although I have spent a couple of winters in the UK and rejoiced when it got to double figures.
38 expected in Porto in a couple of hours. It seems it’s quite unusual. I am used to hotter summers in southern Spain but the older I grow, the less I tolerate the heat.

3 years ago I spent the summer in Scotland, to escape from the heat and I was delighted. I was in Peebles, quite close to you, actually, when there was a heat wave. It was 28º, which I found quite pleasant. Everyone was talking about how hot it was. Never had so many strangers talked to me in the street. I was walking the dog in the woods and, for me, it was really pleasant in the shade. A woman said, “What!!! Is it not hot enough for you that you have to wear trousers!!” She could hardly breathe and she was totally outraged. I found the situation really amusing. I sent the HOs a picture of the thermometer in their garden because I knew it was really unusual for them.
Oh, that made me chuckle! You’d think we hadn’t had the odd very hot day before! I hope everyone else was a bit more friendly when they were chatting to you.
I wonder if that’s the same year it got up to 40º at Spittal, which is one of our closest beaches just over the border, and I went swimming in the sea there for the first time since childhood! It was wonderful, apart from the sunburn I got from forgetting to reapply my factor 50 afterwards!
Oh, they were. I don’t think this lady was mad at me, I think she just couldn’t cope and was honestly surprised at my outfit.
I thought it was really funny and reminded me of my own surprise when the host had picked me up at Edimburgh Airport a few days earlier, wearing shorts and sandals. It was coldish and it was pouring down. When I talked to friends and family, I said: “I think these people dress according to the calendar rather than temperature.”
It’s interesting how things are perceived differently depending on previous experiences.
When the Spanish government published regulations regarding temperature limits in order to save energy there was some controversy about whether the limits should be the same for the whole of Spanish territory. Some claimed they should be different because what was hot for people living in the North was normal for those living in Madrid or Seville.
I’m so glad I started this, it’s so interesting to read all the variables. We were in Madrid one Xmas and it was quite cold. There was a big guy walking around in a t shirt and shorts, we decided he was a Glaswegian 
.
While sitting in Edinburgh last year our host showed us how to make “doggy iced lollies” for when it was too hot. We often had people comment “oh he must be so hot”, we though it was just a pleasant day. We are always worried if it’s too cold, do the dogs feet not get cold out walking?
And @temba you know what they say about Qld, beautiful one day perfect the next
. Not sure I’d agree though during cyclone weather Perhaps that should have been “brisbane beautiful one day…” Almost never a cyclone here
