@Oztravels, glad that you enjoy Crete too. One of our objectives through housesitting has been to spend meaningful time in targeted locations for future potential residency. Story beyond forum context. One shortlisted jurisdiction was Greece. We now expect to become residents of Crete in coming months 😊.

Remote and wild, lovely Haida Gwaii, the island home of the Haida First Nations people in British Columbia, Canada. I did a two-week sit in a rustic cabin on the beach, in the forest. Bundled up and slept under an open window, lulled to sleep by the sounds of the surf. Mandy the Rhodesian Ridgeback loved nothing more than to bound up and down the deserted beaches, barking at the Pacific Ocean. An experience I shall never forget, and Trusted Housesitters made it possible.

Just knowing the water is near is good for me. I’ve had the good fortune to sit 3 times coastal NC and VA (and another starting this weekend), 5 times on islands in Puget Sound, Seattle, Vancouver Island and Nova Scotia in Canada, and an urban island sit in Long Beach, CA. There was a canal at the front of the house (no street, just a sidewalk) and Venice style gondolas going by the front.

That photo reminds me of good times on Balboa Island, off Newport Beach in California.
Separately, I did a sit in Long Beach, blocks from the water, and enjoyed an afternoon on Catalina as well. Sitting one lovely cat, with a host who encouraged sightseeing, was sweet.

My hubby and I made a plan this year to complete sits by the sea in the UK. We love traditional sea fronts to walk along and to eat fish & chips and whipped ice cream. You cannot beat it. We have 3 booked and 2 applied for. We also going to Jersey by the coast.

We are open to anywhere that is within walking distance to the sea etc. but it is the traditional British seaside towns I’d like to go too. I’d love to go back to Whitby. Where do you suggest.

I would suggest Margate and Westgate in Kent, Brighton and Hove in Sussex, also West Wittering has a beautiful sandy beach and is near to Chichester which is a lovely old market town with a cathedral, and has roman ruins. The remains of a roman villa at Fishbourne are nearby. If you want a really old fashioned seaside experience, go to Swanage in Dorset. The sandy beach has rows of beach huts, and the place hasn’t changed much in 60 years.
