I was shocked to read of a couple who had agreed to housesit locally to me in Cheltenham, UK and charged £1,400 for a month’s care of pets and home. The outside cameras revealed the pet sitters had been unkind to the dogs and a court case ensued.
The Home Owners didn’t pay the housesitters and the housesitters were given a punishment of community service hours and fines to pay.
It just goes to show how proud housesitters on THS should be of their great reviews and star ratings for their dedication and care of pets and property. It is an exchange that is very much appreciated by many Host Owners but sadly not all.
I wonder if all THS sitters and Home Owners realize there is a service provided to arbitrate when reviews and reviewers can be challenged in exceptional circumstances? I am using the service at the moment. Hoping for justice ! The jury is out at the moment!
Holy crap! How did they find those people? Bases on some comments/beliefs of a few THS they would’ve still given them a 5* review.
These cruel individuals should NEVER be able to have or watch animals again.
It bothers me that these people never get jail time. Community service is no big deal if he can’t hold a job anyways. This is why I like cameras as the poor animals can’t speak for themselves.
My POV: Anyone who abuses children and/or animals should be punished severely. At the least, they deserve similar treatment to what they doled out.
I would always intervene if I saw it myself and if not appropriate report it for sure. Some of the horror stories one reads about beggar belief. I work with rescues hoping I can give them some love that they’ve missed out on. What a sad and sick state of affairs for animals and children caught up in problems created by " responsible" adults!
Education is the key but certainly proper and severe punishments where appropriate. No second chances.
And this is another reason why I have cameras on my property. If THS sitter don’t like that, they can leave.
