@travis to clarify, no overseas sitter with any sense would travel to the USA to petsit right now
better than being blinkered and thinking that the situation in USA has no effect on foreigners travelling there
Blinkered? Love it.
I don’t think living in fear and making decisions based on what could possibly happen because few people were affected is a healthy way to approach life.
I don’t think it’s living in fear, it’s simply being cautious. Heck, we buy life, house, car…insurance not because we’re fearful. Best to be prepared.
We drive cars despite there being the occasional bad accident.
ok, let me put it another way. We don’t want to spend our money as tourists into such a country, and be seen to endorse it, when we can travel elsewhere instead in relative safety.
A reminder to stay on topic and provide helpful feedback to the OP.
Thanks.
why not? ![]()
I get it. I wouldn’t want to spend my money here with everything that’s going on, and I live here (US)! Please know that there are many of us out there who aren’t too happy about it. In the meantime, you do what makes you feel safe, and hopefully we’ll see you again in a few years.
Any luck with your listing? did you get more sitters apply?
I did get a couple. ![]()
amazing, congratulations ![]()
Surely feedback to US hosts about why “aliens” might not want to travel there at the moment is relevant and on topic. I’m not a sitter (but a European-based host) and I think @Redlassie summed it up perfectly Many people don’t want to travel to the US for a myriad of reasons at the moment (but the current government and its beefed-up entry issues might well top the list) even as a tourist, let alone as a sitter. So the pool of potential sitters for US hosts has understandably decreased.

exactly, I have been to USA twice for holidays. Most recently in 2024 just before the last election, when I visited 5 states in 4 weeks. So I am not anti American, just won’t go back now. I prefer Canada or Europe. That DOES answer @Lisnford’s question, so is relevant.

as your comment is not linked to anything that I wrote, I cannot answer you. I don’t understand the context of the question.
There just aren’t enough sitters on the books.
We just had a sit cancelled the day before we were due to arrive and so we thought it would be impossible to find a replacement at short notice. Wrong; there were 72 available starting the next day just in the UK and so we found a replacement.
Yes, I felt sorry for those owners not to have a sitter(albeit some would always struggle to get one) and the holidays that might have been cancelled or the pets taken to kennels but is this normal?
@anon56612445 “aliens”? That’s bizzare.
Could someone explain to me how “sorry, but it ain’t rocket science” is against “community guidelines”. That’s the only part of my original post that has been “judicially altered”?
You are basically insulting their intelligence, not sure why you are unaware of this. Perhaps among close friends as sarcasm its fine, but this Forum is not that.
