In addition to meeting so many wonderful kitties, THS lets me truly enjoy the places I visit. I’m a bit of a foodie, and staying in a member’s home means I can put more of my budget toward exploring local dining. It feels especially good knowing I’m supporting small restaurants while having a delicious adventure!
My main reasons for using THS aren’t really about saving money. First and foremost, it’s the joy of caring for cats—I often joke that I’d happily pay extra for a hotel if it came with a cat! Second, it’s the comfort of being in a real home. Having a kitchen, laundry, and a cozy space makes travel so much nicer than a hotel ever could.
For me, the monetary savings are just a bonus, not the primary driver of my membership. I often wish THS would shine more light on the other gifts of the experience—the companionship, the comfort, and the chance to live like a local—because that’s where the real magic is.
I’ve come to adore cats, thanks to THS sits. I didn’t have much cat exposure before.
THS also allowed me to experience my daydream of living in an English village, complete with pets.
Like I loved during my first U.K. sit that I went to the pub with my sit dog and the barkeep recognized her. And sitting a dog meant meeting lots of people in community greenspaces. Plus, we saw sheep in a field and even someone riding a horse on the high street. And the thatched-roof houses seemed storybook-like. My hosts couldn’t have been lovelier. They even introduced me to some friends and neighbors, who later invited me for afternoon tea and such.
I love the slow emersive travel that THS provides. It’s really enriched my travel experience and I’ve met wonderful people along the way who are now dear friends.
