Also want to say that I understand a need for privacy, but when you are as a sitter or a homeowner in a membership system where “confirmed” means something, then giving the other person some detail so they understand you are not acting frivolously is considerate. Last summer I had to cancel on a sit I was going to and on sitters coming in because one of my cats became very ill. Of course I had to give the parties the details so they could understand I was not acting irresponsibly and was doing the best I could.
I’ve been cancelled on and have accepted the reasons/explanations offered. Sometimes in my heart of hearts I haven’t felt they were fully justified, but I accepted them and moved on.
