Bitten by dog

I’m assuming you’ve already had the recommended vaccinations which would include tetanus. You could go into a pharmacy and ask the pharmacist for advice maybe? Hope it’s not too bad though.

Could you clarify how this balance works without the sitter being expected to stay until someone else takes over the care of the pet? As far as I can tell the burden is on the sitter to stay, not the HO to quickly make other arrangements.

Also, yes someone just reached out to me and thought I was still there. Why would I have stayed until Monday? The HOs did make other arrangements and I left. However, I would not have stayed this long with a dog trying to bite me every time I had to take her out. I would hope that THS would not have expected me to stay this long.

Hi @systaran

I would recommend contacting Membership Services about this, as the Forum team isn’t part of the MS team, so we don’t always have the knowledge they do and can’t help with these kind of enquiries.

The information in my previous post to you was information passed along by the MS team. I’ll update them with your comments above.

You’re very welcome @systaran - I wish there was more I could do!

I’m glad you’ve been able to post about the situation here and get some support from your fellow members.

If the team come back to me with anything I’ll let you know ASAP.

@pietkuip Fortunately, it seems my health insurance is covering the doctor visit and tetanus shot (shocking since I’m US based). I just paid $10 for the antibiotics. It’s not deep and seems to be healing well, so I think it will be fine and I won’t end up with medical bills.

That’s good it means that THS has a record of the Homeowner cancelling the sit . You are therefore covered by the sit guarantee ( if you are a Premium member )

Member services will help you submit the claim provide your receipts for the alternative accommodation.

@systaran when you said the sit is gone from your dashboard does that means you will not be able to leave a review.

Minor ish detail in your circumstances…but future sitters should know.

Or @Jenny sorry to put you on the spot but would this listing be removed as a result then?

Here’s an example of when most us would expect THS to have already kicked off a host and their dog, but apparently haven’t: HO Allowed to List Dog That's Bitten and Aggressive

This is why I suggest (when possible) not canceling and instead shortening, so the sitter can warn others. If a sitter has already started a sit, to me, it should be kept on the record to help others avoid the same problems, especially if it’s so bad that the sitter has to leave early.

@systaran did you make a Sit Cancellation Claim for this ?

@silversitters No I didn’t file a claim for this one. I was only a few hours drive from my sister’s house, so I just went to stay with her for a few days and then found a last minute sit that was close to my next scheduled sit.

This was over a year ago, but just for other’s info, after this situation was over, I checked in with MS later just to clarify the cancellation plan. I specifically asked about whether it applied in cases where a sitter needs to leave due to violations of the T&Cs such as untrained aggressive dogs, or any other violations (third parties, indoor cameras, filthy house, etc) and was told that yes, the insurance applies in those scenarios. So, anyone trying to file a claim in those situations, if you are told the insurance doesn’t apply, ask to talk a manager or supervisor. I think some of the MS people are not trained very well.

As a side note, THS gave me a refund for my full membership year which was a surprise.

And I stopped sitting for dogs after this (with the exception of repeat sits for dogs I already know and love).
