Car rentals for house sitters in England

Oh and just be aware they are within their rights to refuse a change of risk such as this but its not good customer care without specific/justifiable reasons.

You may have to find alternative cover which could cost you a cancellation fee on the Churchill policy and of course a whole new premium. Maybe a local insurance broker could be a better option to help.

We recently finished a 10 day sit outside of Birmingham. the HO wanted us to be able to use their car to take the dogs to various parks that were too far to typically walk to. I don’t know what insurance company they had, but their request to add us to their coverage was denied – No permanent address in the UK. Done deal. They tried talking to them a second time, no discussion.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced car rental company in the south of England? I’m looking at the West Devon area. Does anyone have any experience with Sixt? Thanks.

@mars We have used Sixt on many occasions in The States and Costa Rica, always found them to be very good.

Mars,

I get the best deals through Expedia usually on Budget and Avis. I book early and then constantly check the prices as I get closer to the date. Sometimes I have found a reduction of $150 for the same car in the same period. Then I rebook and cancel the original booking.
I spend 3/4 months a year in the UK so make frequent bookings. I have also found they do not try to upsell me when I am picking up the car.
I recently had a very bad experience with Enterprise when they claimed there was a chip in my windscreen which was in the driver’s line of vision so prevented them from renting out the car until it was fixed. It was so tiny as to almost be invisible and was not in the driver’s vision.
They said they would only charge my deposit of 250 rather than the full excess on the car. Claimed when the manager returned he would charge the excess. I refused to pay and later spoke to the manager when he returned to work later in the week. I had the charge removed and they had in fact rerented the car without any repair.
The lesson from this was when you take photos of the car when you collect it remember to take photos of the windscreen.

I meant to say my bad experience with the windscreen chip was with Enterprise, not Expedia.

We just rented a great car in the UK through EASIRENT @mars We used Travel Supermarket and Kayak to search for the best deals as recommended by @Lokstar and it was about £14 a day for a 9 day rental.

Hello,
I’m new to this site so I’m sorry if I’m posting this is the wrong place.
I am looking to hire a car in the UK while house sitting. Would anyone have any recommended car rental sites - or promo codes they would be happy to pass on at all?
Thanks so much! Best wishes with your sits and searches and dreams everyone  :star_struck:

Hi @WonderingWanderer - both easyJet car hire and kayak.co.Uk are very good. We recently did 9 days for £133 in and out of Birmingham :raised_hands:t3:

We hired cars in March and April in the UK through Europcar and Enterprise. They were both great but not cheap.
