A large number of US sitters are in this protected class. As for Canadians members the age is 19 and up. Since you have to be 21 to join THS, all Canadian members are effected. It is a bad look for a company, and a turn-off for potential members. I doubt anyone joins because they’re saying, “Oh great! I get to filter out the old people,” but many older people might avoid the site because they feel they’ll be filtered out.
Hello @Marion Thank you for sharing this information and concerns. I will pass it along to the team. Have a lovely weekend!
I appreciate that however I wrote an email to support long ago. I never even received a reply. I view this as something baked in. It’s why as much as I have benefited from THS and saved money as a homeowner, and as much as I enjoy sitting, I have strong reservations about the company, and if an alternative was available, I would use it. As a thought experiment, let’s imagine for a moment that Airbnb suddenly announced, “Now hosts will see guest ages! And be able to filter out guests who are “too young” or “too old”. Find the right guests for your home!” It’s unacceptable and whenever it comes up (and I’m on a sit now with a sitter in my home) – I feel like a hypocrite for not cancelling my membership.
