Homeowners please invite sitters who have favorited your listing when you have flexible dates

A householder told me she was sent an email when I put her on as a favourite.

Great idea! As a sitter I can only contact HO’s I’ve had previous contact with. Even I when I have to turn an invitation down I’m always happy to have received it.

Matt and I have been full time, nomadic sitters for 5+ years. We have 2 THS accounts so that we may reach out to homeowners even when there is a short overlap of dates. Most homeowners understand that one of us will do a great job with their pets until the other one finishes up the previous sit and can join them.

It appears you travel with a partner. Have you considered starting a second THS account so as you can apply for sits with overlapping dates?

One does not have the option to contact a homeowner that posts a sit that overlaps one’s booked sits unless a previous dialog exists.

As I was looking for a single sitter for my latest sit I thought it might be easier approaching several sitters who had favorited me. Most did respond but couldn’t do the dates (if you sort the sitters by the dates you want covered THS shows those with “free” days, plus those that haven’t marked their calendar free or busy (a bug?)) , one wanted me to cut my holiday in half, and two didn’t respond at all. I ended up “advertising” the sit as normal and declining couples who applied. So it might work but in my case, this time it didn’t.

@Cheri the option of a second account is always there but I, personally, object to having to pay for a second account just to access an option that was always there before the restrictions were implemented!! A recent THS survey I completed included a question that asked if I was willing to pay extra for the option to apply for overlapping dates! This contradicts the THS stance that overlapping dates means pets get neglected (completely untrue in most cases, especially when its a couple splitting to do the overlap) and indicates it was a move towards gaining extra income from us paying for additional extras!

It’s too bad that didn’t work out for you, but I appreciate that you tried! I also wanted to share that our availability calendar is virtually useless because we are not able to manage it ourselves. We can’t mark out travel days or weeks when we can’t sit. I always fell badly about turning down an invite but it happens frequently because our calendar Is so incomplete. I think it is just another thing that could really use improvement.

We have considered making another account but have not done it for a couple reasons. First, from reading the forum conversations about managing two accounts it sounds difficult and confusing. At least this is what a majority of the couples with two accounts say. Second, we also do not think we should have to pay for a second membership to do something that used to work with one account. I also wonder about the real reason this restriction was put in place, especially since they are talking about an upcharge to allow overlapping n surveys. Also, I have not found any forum topics with complaints about pets being neglected because couples overlapped sits.

How are you contacting HO if you have a conflicting sit? It doesnt seem possible to message HO if there are any overlapping days.

I’m not. Just because I have conflicting sits or other events, that doesn’t mean they’re THS sits. Like I have a Nomador account. Some hosts also post multiple sits, so if they have one or more that don’t conflict with something else I’m doing, I can still contact them about future sits.

I have noticed HO’s who are in my favorites list who have posted new dates … and I have not been notified.

Hi @Sidney you need to check your notifications for the THS app are turned on. If they are then uninstall & reinstall the app & turn on notifications again. If that doesn’t work you will need to email membership services. I don’t use the website much so can’t advise you about that.

Thanks for these hints.

Thanks,
Sidney Roberta

Yes, i think a lot of PPs - especially those new to the site - are unaware of the 5 applicant limit.

Also, they recently have acknowledged a notification bug that came along with the last Apple iOS update. They are working on fixing it now.

Thanks,
Sidney Roberta

I just posted the same!

I hear you and agree there is a work-around UNLESS the sit dates overlap… then it’s up to the HO to start the conversation.

We can Favorite a sit.
