But is it allowed to cancel a confirmed sit just because the HO hasn’t uploaded a WG? Also, only HO can cancel a sit.
If the owner is withholding information you don’t have to go into a sit blind - you give them a reasonable amount of time to produce the guide ( especially if they are new members ) and it doesn’t have to be the THS one .
No one can make you do a sit - and you have to protect yourself .
You tell the owner that if they don’t send you WG by xx you cannot do the sit .
If they don’t send it
you contact them again to say that you want to withdraw from the sit because they have not provided the welcome guide - if they don’t cancel the sit official (removing it from the dashboard ) you contact THS and explain the circumstances. and ask THS to cancel it.
Similarly if you receive the WG and it contains information that wasn’t previously disclosed ( negative pet behaviour, camera, third parties etc ) you can say that you will not do the sit because these things were not disclosed when you agreed to the sit .
The WG is kind of like a contract, the agreed responsibilities. If an owner doesn’t commit to that, then why should a sitter risk arriving at a sit with fingers crossed, hoping all is going to be as advertised and discussed? At least by withdrawing early, the owner has time to look for another sitter willing to go in blind.
Interesting question @BonnyinBrighton. Doesn’t any dog go to bed when the humans do, or earlier? What prompted this question?
@Newpetlover just shut your bedroom door!
Thanks for your suggestion but what I have learnt is to ask questions which are relevant to me not to change the pets routines or break an agreement I made with the HO. I just want to know in advance if a sitting is for me or not. There are sittings for all types of people, personalities and sleeping habits. I just want both the owner and myself to make the right choice.
Because I didn’t find out the ‘normal’ routine for the crated puppy until night 3 and involved bedtime at 9.15pm effectively excluding me from the open plan kitchen dining room lounge with TV and couches. I’ve not been sent to my bedroom at 9pm since I was 11 years old!!
We go to bed whenever we want and we won’t let our evenings be dictated by the puppy’s schedule. They will sleep when they want to sleep. There’s no way we’ll let that be dictated to us. We do everything for the dogs, but there are limits.
Exactly if I had known the 9.15pm curfew beforehand I’d have never agreed to the sit, a hidden detail…. however I stayed up until my normal 11.30pm as it made no difference to the puppy it only slept 5-6 hours anyway.
We’ve hosted 2 sitters so far. For this third time coming up I wrote up a very detailed profile of our dog: his habits, quirks, likes, dislikes, diet, etc. The day before our video chat with our first choice, I sent them this profile and suggested they bring up any concerns during the chat. There were no red flags for them but some of it was helpful info that we don’t have in the WG and they might not absorb during the handover.
@BonnyinBrighton this is information to include in your review to “warn “ future sitters .
And I certainly did that…… showing respect to any future sitters.
It’s an important question that I’ll add to my list @BonnyinBrighton
I recall a previous thread where a sitter couldn’t stay up and work late at night as they usually did because the dog insisted ( became very vocal ) after a certain time at night . They resorted to having to work from bed with the dog !
