I think there should be a special name for that lurch in the stomach when you realise you’re on one side of a locked door - and the keys are on the other. Yalepunch? Chubblurch?

Yes … you’re right. As it was a while ago, maybe he handed me two £50 notes. I remember so significantly that the cost was £100, and at that time, it was a substantial amount, but I was so grateful for the efficiency and generosity of spirit, so I was happy to pay.
It’s a really lovely story @Therese - thank you for sharing!
As part of our standard owner query, we ask where the hidden key is. Used it once.
Being locked out was of course my own fault
I went out to deal with the rubbish for collection, took the key with me as the door closed automatically and as the cats were not allowed out I couldn’t wedge the door open.
I can’t remember the exact details, but couldn’t get the bin out of the crate so I laid the key on top of the wooden crate so I could use both hands. I then noticed a clip on the top of the crate and in a ureka moment opened the lid of the crate causing the key to fall down the back of the crate duh !
It was winter, it was dark and freezing cold and the crate was a solid piece. Luckily I took my phone out with me in case I needed the torch.
Hercules became my middle name and I managed eventually to move the crate enough to give enough space to use a stick to pull the key towards me. A very phew moment.
The HO couldn’t believe I had been able to pull the crate forward.
I couldn’t get the crate to go all the way back, so my senior moment had to be revealed as the Ho couldn’t help but notice the crate had been moved ![]()

I locked myself out once (I had the wrong keys in my pocket). I realized this almost immediately, but it was already late in the evening for a last walk with the dog.
Primary emergency contact was the neighbour, I got in touch with her but she was away on vacation. Next emergency contact was family that lived 80 km away, so I contacted the pet owners. They suggested contacting the next-nextdoor neighbours and climbing over the roofs. That turned out to be very easy, because I had left my upstairs bedroom door unlocked. So no acrobatics, and it got resolved within an hour.
