Welcome to the Forum @kyleigh papercutting sounds super interesting, we’d love to hear more (and feel free to share any photos if you have them)!
Hi, I’m Jocelyn and I’m open for traveling the world doing Trusted Housesitter stays. Heading to France for April! Free after that!
Hi All
I’m a homeowner with 3 fur babies. I recently purchased a new home in a rural community. I’ve had the pleasure of hosting 8 THS sits in my metropolitan apartment. I’m looking forward to hosting many more in my new home!
This forum has been so helpful for me and THS is so amazing! I look forward to joining as a sitter when the time is right
All the best,
Lisa
Hey Lily! We’re new to THS, this forum, and completed our very first sit yesterday in our local area of Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Our goal is to get 5-6 consistent 5* reviews this year and then go international. We love to travel but are constrained by fixed income retirement income; don’t know yet how these slow travelers afford it.
About us: Married just shy of 50 years. She took care of me for 35 years while I traveled on business, so now I’m taking care of her for the next 35 years. I’ve learned to cook and am a home test cook for America’s Test Kitchen.
What we like: Travel, of course; pets - at one point I had 11 dogs, 8 cats, a horse, 3 sheep, about 20 chickens, and a pet crow. I also like to fish, lap swim (qualified for PanAm Games at university), sailing, and sailboat racing.
If we can figure out the finances (and dealing with our home and possessions), we’d like to pet/house sit for about 6 months annually, chasing the sun seasonally to stay warm. Could use some guidance with this plan.
Hi everyone,
I’m new on the community, recently found out abut THS and very happy that this app exist, so combines traveling with pets. Pretty cool.
I’ve seen some of the messages and it really seems you’re having a good time sharing experiences, and some of you have been around for a while.
I hope to have my first experience soon, maybe this summer, as I work in a Secondary School and I have two months off.
Nice to join in
Welcome to our newest members!
Hi @InternationalSitters , Welcome to THS.
We have been sitting full time for four years. It is a great way to visit new places without breaking the bank on accommodation. Everyone will have their own story so you should start a new post asking how sitters afford their lifestyle.
For us, because we are full time, we let our home and the rental from that really helps, plus we have a pension and some investment income.
We are UK based but have done a few sits around Europe, plus Australia and New Zealand - We find we spend less now than when we were fixed to one address!
Good Luck with your future sitting plans
Maybe look into tiny homes, if you’d be willing to downsize. I’ve seen countless social media videos in which people say they’ve cut their living expenses and travel more, thanks to tiny home living. Given that tiny home communities tend to have like-minded folks who look out for each other, it’s probably safer in such settings vs. many typical homes if you travel a lot.
Okay, Colin, thanks. Now a basic question as I have not figured this one out yet: How do you start a new post?!
Are you using the website or the App?
I use both website and app.
On the app -
Go to ‘Forum Home’
Scroll down, and click on ‘Sitters Questions/chat’
Click on the small square ‘pen?’ Logo
Away you go!!
Regarding travelling hobbies, i highly recommend birdwatching and photography!! Very portable, all you need are binoculars, a bridge camera (The fancy DSLR cameras tend to come with lots of heavy equipment!), and a smartphone (the Merlin app will identify all those birdsongs for you!!) Plus its creating memories of places visited
Go on then… City or United?? im a Bury lass, aka Gigg Lane… this is football speak, for those who have no idea what im on about!
Wow, im sure any dog owner would be delighted to have you come & sit for them!whereabouts in the UK are you visiting? (Just curious/being nosey!!) I live in Derbyshire, the beautiful peak district national park.
Go on then… City or United??
@LancashireLass I’m a United fan.
I was fortunate enough to grow up in the 90’s, so I knew nothing but success for so long. Things have been pretty miserable (relatively speaking) over the past decade, but these things go in cycles and I’m sure we’ll be back at the top at some point.
After Bury’s financial troubles a few years back, it must feel good to be on the road to recovery. Our local teams are the heartbeat of our towns, so I hope you’ll be back in the Football League asap.
Incidentally, if anyone is visiting the North West of England, Bury is famous for its Black Pudding - an essential part of any Full English Breakfast.
That’s such a nice thing to say, thank you. I take my dog sitting pretty seriously, so I hope that all the dogs taking me on as a roomie this summer enjoy my stay at least as much as I do.
So far, I’ve got a three week sit in Littlehampton on the south coast and then another three weeks northeast of Oxford. I’m attending a two-day seminar about ACE Free Work (a dog assessment and enrichment protocol) near Bath in mid-September, so I’ll still have more time to fill up.
Is there any city or town that you think I really ought to be looking for a sit?
You have good taste! Lifelong Man United fan here. And that was in the 70s and 80s when they were not enjoying much success.
I am a Bury Black Pudding… i qualify as i was born there! I used to buy a bag of black pudding slices on Bury market, on my way home from school!
Ive been vegetarian for 40 years now: thats probably why
Hi!
I just started after a friend recommended me this platform. I have always taken care of pets and peoples’ homes around me and have traveled around as well. I am a 30 y/o photographer based in Amsterdam.
Initially because I am going to Japan next month I saw a really cool listing online that would fit my exact dates but upon making a profile I found out it was in review and I couldn’t submit anymore. I think it would be a great benefit if we can add each other as friends on the app.
Has anyone else felt this?
