You rewritten listing looks great and I’m sure will attract suitable sitters. Please let us know the outcome ![]()
Perhaps I wasn’t very clear. My point is:
I need to know all the requirements of a sit, not the explanation of why the HO asks for X or Y.
In this case, the requirement is “two fit adults who have at least 3 THS reviews sitting together”
Being able to secure the outside furniture and prepare the house in case of hurricane or strong winds is also a requirement, so it’s important to include that information in the listing, as @DarkAloha has now excellently done. Even two fit adults might not be able or willing to do that, so better to filter out applicants from the get go.
If someone asks for a local sitter, a couple, an animal behaviour expert, a male sitter… I won’t apply, I don’t need an explanation to refrain from applying.
The OP was frustrated that they were getting applications from solo sitters, at that stage the wording made it sound like a preference for couples rather than a requirement.
@DarkAloha, well done.
This is an excellent example of the forum being useful and OP putting into practice important improvements to their listing.
Good luck.
I have seen your sit. I understand why you need a couple. I am a single sitter. This is why I won’t apply ( I even looked at the cars to rent on Turo, would be around $1000 per month).
Hope it helps.
Maybe consider finding a local handy person that can assist in the event of a hurricane, that way you don’t have to limit yourself to couples.
Just had a look. As others noted, I think you’ve done an excellent job with your listing. Your expectations & reasons are very clear & understandable to a mature sort of sitter and experienced home-carers, while not crossing over into a tone that might be off-putting to some. I believe your listing should be very appealing to responsible & experienced of sitters, and will hopefully attract more of what you’re looking for. (And Hurrah! to you for resolving the car-rental issue; that was a difficult one for any non-local sitter to overcome.)
TBH your current listing makes me really wish I wasn’t primarily a solo sitter — I know your area fairly well & fit all your other criteria, but respect your requirements for the reasons you stated. (That said, I’d definitely be favoriting @BonnyinBrighton’s profile if I were you!
)
Best of luck!
Just wanted to give everyone an update and say thank you again for all the help
. We did find some great sitters who accepted our invitation to sit (after we had a video chat and felt like it was a good fit for everyone involved). Even with all the edits to the listing and very clear requirements for two adults, I still got about 20 applications from single people in about 36 hours. As suggested, I was diligent about declining them so that I could keep the applications open for those that met the listed requirements. Thanks again to everyone for the input and wishing you all many happy sitters and/or sits. ![]()
I’m glad you found suitable sitters.
Thanks for the update. It’s always great to hear back from OP.
That’s brilliant news and well done for being open to a range of feedback.
