They didn’t review me. She responded to my review of her. I was honest, unemotional, factual, and I bookended the negative with positive (started and finished the review on a positive note, middle section was devoted to the ‘negative’. I must have hit a nerve because she went into attack mode.
Absolutely - don’t get me wrong, much of the sit was positive, but I did leave a review that I hope was positive on the positive aspects, but honest on this front.
I am so sorry that happened to you, it sounds AWEFUL.
I find it very unfair that sitters are told not to abandon the sit in situations like the one you described. I think that it is unacceptable for sitters to be expected to be put in such situations as it isn’t just about a filthy home, it is also about the fact that you are being disrespected and put in a precarious situation. Frankly it sounds like your wellbeing was not being considered, neither by the HO or by THS. In my opinion agreeing to sit should not equal signing up for abuse, being put in an unhealthy situation and being taken advantage of, nor should it equal a ruined trip because of such circumstances.
This problem needs to be addressed in a more proactive, where sitters are respected and treated with some common decency.
I’m so sorry. Luckily we have had almost all wonderful sitters. But a terrible sitter can really change how you look at all of this. We did have to ask one to leave. She was over the top nuts! I didn’t listen to my gut when we accepted her. I did listen to my gut after she arrived. I’m not sure what she may have done had we let her stay. But after that we have had good people sitting for us. So the shock of the betrayal will wear off after a while.
There were a bunch of other really odd things too:
copied me on a private messages
walked into my room turned on lights during midnight arrival
chatted about former suitors during dinner in front of the husband
had a spat over spilt hot water when making me tea
train the door to take treats from hand from tush area – completely serious I have a video they sent me
Surely, if a sitter is that disloyal and unrespectful, after you notified THS, she should have been disqualified as a member and her membership forfeited.
The same goes for dirty homes offered to sitters.
This is supposed to be trust from both sides… !
Best recovery from bad sit, is a great sit. I just had a nice hike with the dog. Then hot tub. Lovely apartment, and not too big, so not time consuming to clean when I leave. That is how you recover. But I would think pests in an apartment are a health hazard and you wouldn’t have to stay? Like roaches? Mice? Bed bugs? I would think that is a reason to leave. Though most tropical places probably have cockroaches.
I’ve only ever had good experiences previously. The HO’s dog bit me last night, after biting a stranger on the street on our first walk. I need to look up member services because I’ve never needed to contact them before.
@StJames
Sorry to hear that this has happened .
Have you informed the host about both occasions
?
THS member support don’t read the forum
To contact them ring the THS Urgent Support Phone Number . It is shown on your dashboard , it’s a 24/7 phone number and you can speak to a member support agent.
Pers that have previously been aggressive and not permitted on THS . So you can give the hosts 24 hours notice that you are leaving ( which gives them time to return or make alternative arrangements)
5.2.4. ensure that no pets to be left under the care of a Sitter have ever caused a person or animal any physical harm (no matter how minor the injury);
5.2.11. not have any inherently dangerous pets (such as venomous snakes or constrictors, primates, wolves or wolf hybrids, non-domesticated cats, alligators), banned dog breeds, or any animal with a history of attacks on pets or people
Please report back on the advice that you get from THS .
@StJames ,
I’m sorry to read of this and hope you’re OK! I passed this over to Membership Services and I’m hopeful you’ll hear from them soon. I’ve also sent you a DM.
