Sitting in the English countryside

Theres also TooGoodToGo

where you pay a small amount for a bag of food - last time i used it i paid £3 for about £35 worth of food, but it was all rather random and i gave a lot of it to a neighbour because there’s a lot i can’t eat (weird allergies). But worth an experiment.

Hi @Orawro
I sent you a DM yesterday and have tried again today - have a look at your icon on the right and see if anything has arrived
thanks

@Itchyfeet We will be in the Peak District pet sitting (Grindleford and Tideswell) mid-January to mid-March. Maybe we can arrange a meet up while we are there.

Hi @Landbiscuit
I am wondering why so many people are pet sitting in Tideswell all of a sudden!!
Would love to meet up - do you want to send me a DM and we can organise it?

Yes, unfortunately the train are really expensive, but if you book around 12-6 weeks in advance using thetrainline.com you’ll find it less so. And you can choose different times because that always makes a difference.

A railcard can be worth it too, usually around £35 to buy and gives you 30% off. If you play around with the times on Trainline.com that @Elsa1 suggests, then sometimes first class is a steal. Have had plenty of tickets for £18/£20 from Hereford to London Paddington and they feed & water you in that price! :raised_hands:t3:

If you choose the bus option, try Megabus https://uk.megabus.com/
Less expensive than national express.

Exactly! Used to use that from Uni in Bristol to London for £1 on a Friday night :rofl: FlixBus has also arrived in the UK at last https://www.flixbus.co.uk/
:star::raised_hands:t3:

wait, what? - food and drink included in that cheap train ticket price?!

Yup! In advance tickets. First class with Great Western/Virgin Trains. Always middle of the day times. And we’re talking G&Ts too :raised_hands:t3: @Rhe

I use the train regularly and never had anything included. Quite often there’s no food car certainly not from north east to London.

It’s the same on SE trains @Elsa1 - simply a different colour seat for double the money  (note last trip into Gatwick in November), it’s the West Country ones that are the winner! Paddington to Truro, £35 with food and drinks first class with any railcard for example. The Cornwall, Devon, Wiltshire, Berkshire, London route is the best for deals when we’re back in Blighty :+1:t3:

I live in the north east so no refreshments there……

If you are planning on taking the train, do please keep an eye on the service website for disruptions as there have been many recently, for various reasons.

Hello everyone! Sorry for the delayed response. All your responses were sent to our spam folder. Very sorry about that.

Thank you for all your wonderful tips and advice! Hopefully, I’ll be able to get the transitions together. Fortunately, I’ve got time to figure it out.

Best regards,
Heather
