No way to know, but I’d guess that their backend might be a mess. Often, small businesses have a ton of what’s known as “technical debt,” meaning they build something janky and it’s a mess to clean up or update later.
For businesses that really take off, they eventually come back and fix such problems, but it can take years. And for a business like THS, which is only so big, they might never get around to clearing all their debt.
I worked for an early stage startup that eventually IPO’d and we had loads of resources by comparison and it still took us painful years to clean messes made early on. And it wasn’t for lack of trying. It was just very complicated and involved plenty of dependencies. Similarly, I’m now at a late-stage startup and technical updates are complex. No one would like to have them all fixed more quickly than all of us who work there, LOL.
