Thoughts on long walks?

It is excessive and I guarantee you the HO is not doing that. I had that a couple times only to arrive to a fat dog whom the HO clearly wanted me to get into shape. More and More HO’s are taking advantage of sitters big time. Just say NO.

I had a dog that liked long sniffs. I counted to 3 and then said “let’s go” and pulled.

How can you state it’s excessive? You can think it is, but you certainly can’t guarantee it. Nor do I find HOs taking advantage of sitters, that’s something that I haven’t encountered in any way shape or form. Please don’t project your experiences on to everyone else.

I usually walk the dogs more than HOs. Because I am used to walking dogs on a regular schedule. I want them to get their energy out and it is good for me. The HOs make jokes that they will now have to walk their dogs more.

I’m not projecting I’m sharing an experience which is what this forum is for, Take care!

Yes I’ve had this experience on multiple occasions. I’ve checked with the HOs that their dogs would be able for longer walks/hikes and they’ve always said yes. I think this is partly because I have more time to spend on a walk/hike. Some owners specifically asked for sitters who’d be happy exercising their dogs for 2 hours per day or more, the dogs weren’t fat either and I wasn’t being used to get them into shape. I don’t apply for sits where dogs don’t need, or want walks and are content to use the backyard/garden

I just was on a sit where the owner wanted me to take this older, a little overweight dog on a trail, back and forth 6 miles. No way this dog could do it. The sit was on the ocean, and I just walked along the ocean trails, maybe 2 miles at most – early morning walk. And it was panting. And it was not a fast walk as I was looking down at the beaches and rocks at the wildlife.

Maybe they wanted you to carry the dog the rest of the way :joy:
