I know this is an older thread BUT I just have to give kudos for the amazing idea of putting olive oil (etc) into baggies and then into a solid container. I hate leaving food behind (not replacing ones I used but other things) but trying to figure out how to carry everything is so annoying that I’ve left oodles of things all over the country. I’m definitely going to try this the next time I have something leftover that I don’t want to leave.
For my own advice: I use an app called Supercook to come up with ideas for recipes using things I already have. You add in everything in your pantry and then it’ll find recipes for you with those ingredients– you can even focus on a specific ingredient if you want to use it up. It’s come in very handy for me when I have too much of something left and it’s nearly the end of the sit, but I can’t think of anything good to make!
My other suggestion is, if you have something refrigerated that you want to take but are concerned about keeping cold, is to get one of those insulated bags that fold flat. They have small ones at the Dollar Tree, for instance, that can hold a few sticks of butter or a small amount of cheese (things I usually try to take with me, ha). Then, when you don’t need it, you can stash it in your bag and it wont take up too much room. (Or you could use it as a kind of packing cube if you wanted, I suppose! Double duty!)
